1156425 2010-11-25 22:25:00 I am on 20g with telekom then it goes back to dial up speed. Dial up speed from Boer war.
Last month the kidz burnt up the 20G in 10 days.
When I first saw post i thought you were going to set up a home gym lol

1156426 2010-11-26 10:05:00 I'm on 20Gb here, used to be on Bigtime (personal best of 277Gb IIRC). So long as you keep track of your usage, it's not too bad. I try to be careful for three weeks, then go crazy in the last week to burn up anything left over. If I do go over, it just slows to dialup. ubergeek85 (131)
1156427 2010-11-26 10:30:00 Mine was 2GB away from twice that. Agent_24 (57)
1156428 2010-11-26 20:50:00 Ok, thanks for all that.

I am currently with slingshot on dial up, have had no problems there, in the past have used xtra, and KOL when the money was short just to get online.

I was thinking / meaning to stay with slingshot. but that was just because id keep email addy's and not have to do a big mail out and say hey i have new address.

and the landline phone currently is with telecom...... and meant if i change isp is it better to do a package deal, broadband and the phone deal? i currently have 2 cellphones on $10 deals charged to the landline phone.....
the idea of changing phone landline and broadband means cell phones need changing....:( they telecom ones, not XT

sorry if i confused you yesterday, ended going home from work sick, the brain just went on strike i guess...:p

and yes im picking that if we get broad band we will use the puter more.

i will have to do some more thinking, and way up what is needed and what is possible i guess.

then i have to work out what is involved and what is needed this end.... phone jack or cables etc? never had broadband at home before so its all new to me.

:)

1156429 2010-11-26 20:56:00 Just the phonejack, that you've got already, modem (you may get one when you sign up). Altho, depending on how many people want to use BB (the modem may only have one port). So, you may have to buy another modem, or a ethernet hub. And you may also get the filter (once you sign up to someone).

If there's more than 1 person there, if you wanted wired / ethernet, you'll need cables. or if you want wireless, everything will have to have wireless on it

1156430 2010-11-27 00:48:00 If you want to maintain your current email.
You may be able to use mail forwarding. Then use the new ISP email or gmail to access them.

So then you can choose any ISPs you want. You can still send email out using your old email address, just use the old email with the new isp's smtp server address to send out. Use the old pop server address to get mail.

Might not work for all but it does work for mine, they keep on sending me invoices for a few years now with 5c credit.

I only took up BB 4yr ago, I had 3GB cap before which was fine for me. For you I suggest maybe 10GB for the first month and then re-evaluate.

We got 10GB now but I just switched my next month back to 3GB :)

PS. If you go to a friends/family place maybe see if you can pop the mail while running on a diff ISP. Then if they allow you to (auto) forward emails - should be under customer login online - you are all set.....

1156431 2010-11-27 00:51:00 A all in one unit prob be the cheapest overall and easiest to set up.

If you buy a modem router, chances is that they give you a free line filter.

If the computer room has no telephone - you don't need a filter. Just the phones do.

If you resort back to dialup eg, if BB fails, dialup and fax does not use filters either...

And, if you sign up to BB they probably get you online on the same day :)

1156432 2010-11-27 01:05:00 Telecom gave me 2 filters when I got mine Agent_24 (57)
1156433 2010-11-27 04:12:00 . . . and meant if i change isp is it better to do a package deal, broadband and the phone deal?

I've done it both ways . Landline + Flat rate Tolls with one and net with another . If I was to do that again I'd go back to Xnet . I don't care about the slow at night thing .

But I have had the All-in-One deals too, Landline, flat rate tolls, net . The tolls thing matters to me because I ring all round the country often .

Other than that I want reliable and no hassles if there are any issues/moves . Which has been the main reason for my current change back to Telecom . Not that I love Telecom in particular, they just could do it real fast and they all have the same kind of bundle deals these days .
