1193033 2011-04-09 01:15:00 Hi all.

Woke up this morning and looked at Xtra Internet usage meter as usual after a Friday night and found around 8.5gig had been used within a 12 hour period which is most unusual ... bloody ridiculous actually

Have a wireless network using Lynksys WAG120N modem/router with WAP2 encrption and a total of 4 (max) computers keyed in and using it.

Interestingly the Lynksys software shows me that 3 computers were using the network and I can verify and none of the 3 would have used the 8gig, however, it also showed that the 4th computer allowed on the network was connected for most of the day and I know that this was not possible - it is a mystery to me as why or how it could be shown as being connected.

Password for encryption is not "password" or anything stupid, no cars parked outside for the day ... but do have a new neighbour within range. How can I find out if he's hacked in somehow ??? and yes ... I've changed the password. Possible Xtra usage meter reading wrong ???

Any help appreciated ... Thanks in advance.

1193034 2011-04-09 01:27:00 You can tick these then tick fix checked. Close browsers. Or use ccleaner and delete the startup entries

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UnlockerAssistant] C:\Program Files\Unlocker\UnlockerAssistant.exe -H

I wouldnt bolther with this

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Six Engine] "C:\Program Files\ASUS\EPU-4 Engine\FourEngine.exe" -b

If you use this, make sure you get the file first then load it. Dont try and update it then flash. It'll probably fail

I have no idea how you would find out if the neighbour is using the bandwidth. Are these computers on 24/7?
Speedy Gonzales (78)
1193035 2011-04-09 01:39:00 If you can, enable both mac and IP filters and disable DHCP. Set the pc's as static and disable the SSID broadcast.
Change the wireless key, even to gibberish if necessary, and write it down somewhere.

That is, if you haven't done so already. Someone could be masquerading as your PC so the router wouldn't know the diff.

Oh and edit - if your PC's are in one direction and your neighbour is in another, make a shield/reflector or something and stick it round the antenna. If you can cut the signal enough he won't be able to find you without camping outside your kitchen window.

1193036 2011-04-09 01:40:00 Thanks Speedy .... no the lappies aren't on 24/7 but the main computer (mine) is on from around 6.30am 'till about 11.30pm most nights - modem/router never off. It's REALLY unusual to have over 1.5gig used on a Friday / Saturday night unless it's getting close to the end of the Xtra month and I let the kids use any unused allowance - they always ask before downloading anything big anyway. 1193037 2011-04-09 03:05:00 they always ask before downloading anything big anyway.

Maybe they didn't. Any peer to peer software running on the PCS? Could be set to upload mode as well.
