1192320 2011-04-05 23:08:00 Hi all

Some sites have social media icons that appear in the center of the right hand browser window and stay there as you scroll up or down the page

can anyone find a general tutorial on how to do this, as every single one i can find is related to wordpress or joomla

Thanks

and no i can't give an example as i can't find a single site that does it right now

1192321 2011-04-06 00:46:00 There may be a add-on or a sign up type site that offers what you want. For example I signed up with Add This, that has social media buttons, but have not checked for any recent updated styles they may have. kahawai chaser (3545)

This is the type of floaty bar thing i was meaning

net.tutsplus.com

on the left hand side, the little menu that doesn't move

That site is built using wordpress too. It is generally made using java. Are you wanting it for an html site, or a cms builder?

I did find this www.serradinho.com

I would also download one of the wordpress plugins (Example (wordpress.org)) and pull it to pieces to see what you come up with. That's assuming you know basic language. PM me if you get stuck and I'll see what I can do to help you better. :)

1192325 2011-04-09 23:05:00 Note that this won't work in all browsers - IE6 doesn't support CSS fixed-position, and requires a javascript fallback based on the viewport scroll height.

Easiest way to achieve this is usually to simply add the javascript inside IE conditional comments. If you have a dynamic page you could also filter based on the UA header.
