1158604 2010-12-04 00:50:00 I been having "words" with xnet about their spam filter . It's forever catching my legit e-mail even though I've try to train it not to (for many months) .

I find it a waste of time having to log onto the xnet web mail, shift the legit email from the spam inbox, then log off and run my e-mail program .

So what good is an e-mail spam filter that I have to check daily?

I've even asked them to turn it off .
Their reply . . . .

"The filter that is marking your emails as spam incorrectly is a global
filter that covers our whole customer-base, so we are unable to disable
it at that level .

I would recommend dragging email from the junk folder to the inbox to
"teach" the system that it is valid email, however it takes time and
that doesn't work in all cases- for example if you are finding emails
from companies (1-day . co . nz or trademe . co . nz) are going to Junk, that
will be because a large majority of people who receive these emails are
moving them to the junk folder, which teaches the system to junk them
for everyone .

The system has had some tweaks and will continue to be worked on and
improved over time, however there is no quick or easy fix for this and a
permanent solution could take a complete restructure of tens of
thousands of email accounts .

If you're finding the email service is not meeting your needs, I would
recommend looking at alternative free email providers such as Gmail,
Hotmail, Yahoo email, or others . "

1 . That's rich - I pay for an e-mail service and they want me to use a free service because they can't make mine work properly .

2 . Do I care that it may need "a complete restructure of tens of thousands of email accounts" ? - nope, I'd just like to get what I paid for .

3 . For over six months now I've been " dragging email from the junk folder to the inbox to "teach" the system that it is valid email"

Un bl00dy believable!

Time to re-evaluate my ISP and the services I want .

1158605 2010-12-04 00:55:00 You could just turn the Xnet spam filter off completely, and then use Mailwasher instead. It's a good program! Agent_24 (57)

I've never used any ISP's spam email filters . None of them work properly anyway . Actually some paid for programs dont work either . Thats exactly what I did because of the slowness with Xnet .

Changed to telstra last week, and got connected yesterday . A hell of a lot of difference in speed . At least I can download anything, anytime of the day now . Instead of downloading at dialup speed

I have Mailwasher (Pro) but if you look at my post again, they say they can't turn off the Spam filter for my account - which is funny because I did have it turned off at one stage but the ability to do that is gone now.

I've never really had a lot of problems with xnet speed (and there is usually 4-6 computers connected to my network) . I have full-speed down and 128k up .

But I will look at Telstra thanks Speedy .

So did I . It was crap at night for downloading tho . And has been since 2007 . Browsing wasnt the prob, downloading files was the prob

Sorry, didn't see that. Guess it is time for new ISP perhaps.

Can't say anything for the other ISPs but the Yahoo!Xtra mail from Telecom is nice - and you also get a free Flickr Pro account as well.

1158611 2010-12-04 02:34:00 Just watch out for Xtra as well, they changed their spam filters a while back, and lots of people are not getting mail they should, once again, its caught in the spam filters.

One example is a LOT of people if they send out invoices / statements Via their accounting program, xtra is marking them as spam.

Over a spam filter??!!
I found Xnets one did get retrained doing that.
Some do, some don't.
Either way, use your own. Thunderbird has one built in

1158613 2010-12-04 02:37:00 I know Xnet blocked emails from Avast. Whether you like/d it or not lol. It classed it as a phishing email. They didnt say why, even after 2 emails. The first reply was they'll get back to me. They never did. And never will now. Since I'm no longer with them. Speedy Gonzales (78)
