| 1157382 | 2010-11-30 01:25:00 | Hi all, If I want to take on career as quality assurance analyst (software tester), is there a specific knowledge/technique that I need to learn? If so, do you know of any uni or tech that offers it? I have a bachelor degree in IT. Any insight is appreciated. Cheers! |

| 1157384 | 2010-11-30 02:14:00 | I started nearly 16 years ago, with very little technical knowledge but with a sound knowledge of business processes and a desire to play with new 'toys' before the hoi polloi got hold of them (still in that headspace after all these years!!) . With an IT degree you are streets ahead of where I was then!!! Key skills include: 1) an almost fanatical attention to detail (but with a 'big picture' overview so you know how it all fits together) 2) acceptance of the fact that much of the time you will be doing tedious and boring work 3) an ability to take a requirements document and convert that into a test plan ensuring you capture all scenarios - positive, negative, boundary - see 2) above :D 4) a positive attitude 5) a keenness to find out how things work and what might break a process (understanding that if there are three ways of doing something, you can be damn sure that an end-user will find a 4th, 5th and 6th method that will deliver totally different results than the documented three 'official ways) 6) good communication skills (clear documentation of defects wins big points with developers) Technical skills will depend on the AUT (application under test) . But some SQL (Oracle and MS) is probably not going to hurt . Just about everything else comes with time and exposure to various systems and businesses . |
