1157164 2010-11-28 23:43:00 Along the lines of SKT174's gardening enquiry, except mine is fauna-related.

The raspberry canes in my garden are producing yummy handfuls of raspberries every day at the moment, but they seem to be infested with little white bugs that, if you touch them, ping (soundlessly, and unrelated to the network administration utility used to test the reachability of a host on an IP network) like they have springs attached. I don't have an image unfortunately.

Does anyone know what they might be and how to get rid of them? I'm positive they must be sucking some amount of goodness from my raspberries!!

1157165 2010-11-28 23:54:00 Spray with a mixture of garlic, dishwasher liquid and warm water leave to stew overnight before spraying. Wash fruit before eating. It is an organic spray sort of, was going to suggest Pyrethrum but not sure if safe to eat and anyway it kills the bees too which you need gary67 (56)
1157166 2010-11-28 23:58:00 Could be aphids ?

Gary67 has said almost what I was going to suggest.

Soapy water from the washing machine is also effective.

1157167 2010-11-29 00:01:00 Definitely not aphids - these are bigger, and white.

Will try the garlic and soap spray... Cheers.

1157170 2010-11-29 01:00:00 Spray with Target or Maldison. From Yates garden doctor.

1157171 2010-11-29 01:25:00 Trev, I think you may find that Maldison ( malathion ) is now off the market. I tried to get some recently but was unsuccessful. In one garden place they had never even heard of it, so maybe it's gone the way of Paraquat. Richard (739)
1157172 2010-11-29 01:38:00 That wouldn't surprise me Richard. I have a few old gardening books. The diseases remain the same but the products to treat them change. Don't know whether they are any better. Probably more eco friendly.
