2010-11-30 08:23:00 | they are all PC fanboys. I'm a PC fanboy. It has 2GB. It beats the pants of yours. It's a HD5970. Hah, but I know it's not just about VRAM. In fact you really need to compare two similar cards (ATI vs Nvidia for instance) and even then, depending what you're playing, how you are playing it (resolution, effects and so on). But whatever, I'll just go admire my PC and be glad I don't own a MAc.

2010-11-30 19:36:00 | Just out of interest I installed the K-lite codec for MPC last night while playing around with an old video file that wasn't playing properly. According to the install K-lite can offload decoding to the GPU. I don't know if it works or not but it did say it can | gary67 (56) | |
2010-11-30 19:59:00 | afaik K-lite isn't a codec - it's a codec pack with an installer, so it boils down to each individual codec, eg xvid, divx, directvobsub etc | SoniKalien (792) | |

2010-11-30 20:29:00 | There's quite a few apps now that take advantage of GPU acceleration, such as 3D modelling and animation (definitely need a good card for that), video processing, even photoshop... | SoniKalien (792) | |
2010-11-30 21:33:00 | Yeah, there are a bunch of them. I don't find them irritating unless they insist on their little theory (memory size = better performance) even when told otherwise. But then again, any 2GB cards will certainly eat any GTX 460 768MBs lol....the 2GB cards I can think of are the likes of 4850x2, 4870x2, 5870 and 5970.....any of which will eat even a GTX470. LOL, wrong!.....2Gb memory cards are required for texture fill rates on large resolutions LCD when gaming eg:25x16..... Texture fill rate is calculated by mem size, mem speed and bus width, however unless you have a GPU able to crunch the data, it is worthless.... This is why you see the newer cards with odd bus width 384 and memory size 1280\15xx better at large resolutions over the 1gb models..... You will see hardly any difference between a 1gb and 2gb 5870..... The 1st video card I bought was a vesa bus diamond virge 3mb card for Doom2, back in about 92\3?
