1193884 2011-04-13 00:50:00 Hi guys, I'm back with a newish issue. :help:

I'm now using wireless on my 2 desktops.

The lounge one, where Xtra Thomson TG585v8 is located gives a reading of 54 MB's when I hover over icon.

Bedroom one, so 10-15 feet away (sorry still old school) various from a low 18 to sometimes 54.

I got a USB extn lead and have the wireless thingee above head height and vertical.

It says, "Signal strength good" even when on 18...

It still works, okay, but just wondering what I can to to boast signal?

:thanks

Ian.

1193885 2011-04-13 01:11:00 Unless you are gaming or have broadband faster than ADSL2+, its a moot point....USB Wireless dongles are not as great as built-in or PCI wireless cards due mostly to the cramped interior of the USB unit.... SolMiester (139)
1193886 2011-04-13 01:16:00 What I would do is try to change the wireless broadcasting channel - that might help .

Are your cordless phones on the 2 . 4 frequency? Are you using bluetooth as well? Not too sure if bluetooth conflict thou . . .

Not continously using microwaves or other similar interest that you may have?

1193887 2011-04-13 01:18:00 We have a N series router but most of our computers are G series. For me 54Mbps connection provides 15-20Mbps ie., when copying files between computers. Our ADSL2+ is about 12Mbps .... Nomad (952)

Thanks SolMiester, we still have dratted adsl. Was supposed to get adsl2 before last Christmas, but still waiting and I see no cabinet work between us and exchange. Was thinking of getting an internal PCI modem. Do you think would be better or just leave, as is?

Thanks. Last time I looked was on a chosen channel. Might change it. Would that upset the two computers?

No blue tooth and microwave doesn't get a lot of use. Cordless, unknown. Sorry

1193891 2011-04-13 04:04:00 Hey, I'm back. Still showing 54 MB's...

Next question.

Anyone know of a good , Freeware, program for recording live voice as MP3?

I've tried a couple, at random and not too good with sound quality.

Any advise, as alway, greatly appreciated..

1193892 2011-04-13 04:09:00 I will get back to you tonight, it's on my laptop .
It's a internet browser toolbar and when you are streaming you just click the red button .

I've used it for my streaming of university lectures . One paper which is self taught (short course) .

Thanks . What I'm looking at is record Sunday morning sermons . Input comes from sound system into Line in on Laptop . They been using, some program, but don't know what it is . It can only record for some 50 minutes and shuts off . :badpc: My job is to burn the CD's . Last Sunday it shut off, a couple of minutes before the end . It's gota be something simple, as not dealing with techies here . :thanks:badpc:
