1193704 2011-04-11 22:33:00 I set up a secondhand router (from me :p) for a friend during the weekend. I couldn't find the ISP password so simply plugged in the old modem into the router and switched the router to bridged mode only. Now she's saying the desktop PC's internet connection keeps dropping out (plugged in with an Ethernet cable), but the laptops are fine (connected wirelessly). I had the same issue when I plugged my netbook in with a cable, but it was fine when connected wirelessly. I have no idea what the problem could be, could anyone enlighten me? :badpc: pcuser42 (130)

Plausible, but my PC and the desktop were both plugged in at the same time, and my PC was using a previously unused cable...

EDIT: And I've just been informed she was just able to send an email she was trying to send since yesterday :p

1193707 2011-04-14 10:52:00 *bump*

Any more suggestions? I'll probably bypass the problem by putting a wireless card in the desktop, but I'd like to get it fixed...

1193708 2011-04-14 11:02:00 What model is the router, does it have a switch inbuilt? Agent_24 (57)
1193709 2011-04-14 11:04:00 Haha I like these problems, when I'm on the other side of them :)

1. So, is the 'new' router you provided providing the wireless service?
2. I assume the old modem is being used just as a modem?
3. When you plug a PC into the 'new' router, does the PC say network cable unplugged? Limited connectivity? Get an IP?

1193710 2011-04-14 11:07:00 Whoops, missed the thing about two devices and bridged mode...

Have you tried not doing it that way? (Just call the ISP and get the damn password!)

1193711 2011-04-14 11:09:00 Use Internet Explorer and Revelation from snadboy.com... ;) Chilling_Silence (9)
1193712 2011-04-14 11:11:00 What the heck is Revelation from Snadboy?

(And the download link gives a 404 error too)

1193713 2011-04-14 11:13:00 Guess I'll have to take my netbook around again and have a play :D
