| 1195468 | 2011-04-18 21:57:00 | I have spent a few hours searching for a win7 or Vista driver for an old PCI ethernet card and have gone around in circles with no result. This card was well used and should be familiar to some of you guys. I know from my searches that the driver which goes back to Win95 has been updated as far as Vista but all the links I have tried have taken me to a weird HP page and I get no recognition of the driver. The card is made by 3com : 3C905B-TX Ethernet Adapter. I am attempting to use it to overcome an onboard LAN Adapter failure on an Intel VC820 mobo. Windows shows it in Device Manager and is asking for a driver. Any suggestions ? |

| 1195472 | 2011-04-18 22:24:00 | pctec, every link I have tried for this driver, including yours, directs me to driver download tools which examine the PC for missing or out of date drivers. These are of no use if there is no internet connection. I am looking for a simple, direct download of the driver. |

| 1195475 | 2011-04-18 22:59:00 | Yes, I get your drift Wainui. Thanks for your link from where I have d/l the drivers which I note are marked up for Vista(seven). Will try them tomorrow. I am upgrading a 6 yr old friend's 2nd PC from XP to Win7, All has gone smoothly so far but I yet have to make it network capable. his on-board lan adapter failed 3 years ago, so i'm disabling that and using a PCI slot. Thanks to you and pctek for quick responses. Love this forum. |

| 1195476 | 2011-04-19 03:40:00 | following on from your toms hardware link, I would try this... go here ftp://ftp.3com.com/pub/nic/3c90x/ and download the 3c90x1.exe file (third down) Make a temporary folder on your desktop Then, dont run it, but right click on the c90x1.exe file and "extract file" to the temporary folder you just made. (or use your rar/zip proggie to open and extract the file to the temp folder) then try installing the card again and get the installer to look in the temp folder you made for a driver. maybe that will work |
