2011-04-18 21:39:00 | Hi all, I'm setting up a family members wireless router but an having some issues setting it up to work with their Telstra cable modem - connecting through the router doesn't allow the PC internet access. I've put in the IP address/subnet mask/default gw/dns supplied from TC (that were put into the PC as a static IP) into the router and configured it correctly for a static IP. I have tried with two routers, one brand new Linksys one and one that has been used in the exact same configuration (a Belkin). Neither of these worked - no Internet access. I got a 192.168 IP address but could not ping through the router (can ping router) or do any nslookups. When trying to access the internet through IE Firefox or Chrome, it sits there for about 10 seconds before saying the usual 'Server not found'. Plugging the workstation back straight into the modem and configuring its IP makes the Internet come back as usual. I'm a wee bit stuck. Any ideas? Thanks

I know of a few people who've got that exact setup working fine, but unfortunately I'm of limited use having never actually done a setup with the cable modems myself. | Chilling_Silence (9) | ||

2011-04-18 23:49:00 | Hmmmmm ok try this -- Give the PC a static IP address, matching the router -- going from previous posts, For the Belkin: 192.168. 2 .? ? anything from 2-100 (Default range) Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 gateway - 192.168.2.1 Add in The DNS as well, the same as the ones Telstra gave you. Mine are the early defaults, 203.96.152.4&203.96.152.12 Silly Question time: :D I assume you rebooted after changing the settings, XP sometimes still needs that.

2011-04-19 00:53:00 | I had to spoof the MAC address when I moved one from a single PC to a router to get it to work. Probably didn't "have to" but it worked "right now" and ran that way for years. Didn't strike the same prob with a new router recently but modem was off for a while during changeover. You may want to try a shutdown of the modem for a few minutes before firing it up with the router attached.

2011-04-19 20:48:00 | When connecting through the router, what do you get when you browse to http://192.168.100.1/ (use that URL exactly - don't modify it to suit your network range. It should take you to the Motorola modem's config page) Also, possibly a stupid question, can you confirm you've configured: 1) Your router's WAN interface with the TelstraClear supplied IP address, gateway, netmask, DNS 2) Your router's LAN interface with an internal IP range (say 192.168.2.1, handing out DHCP addresses from 192.168.2.100 to 192.168.2.200) 3) When connecting via the router, can you ping the IP address of the TelstraClear gateway?
