1160169 2010-12-09 09:22:00 Went through to Christchurch today for injections into my back .... made a mental note of looking out for signs of fatal car accident 40Ks North of Timaru which happened yesterday .... sure enough ... on a straight piece of road the tell-tale signs of a car swerving violently to the right (driving north), fences down and paddock ploughed. Sad sight.

About 30 minutes prior to this ... on a gently rising hill & veering right corner ... SWMBO & I came across another car (heading north) upside down in a ditch straddling a fence ... police everywhere and the rescue chopper taking off to Christchurch.

I drive (and sometimes driven) to ChCh every 4 - 6 months to have these damn injections, but man there are some farking idiots on the roads ... and getting worse. One thing SWMBO & I noticed was a plethora of police in both marked & unmarked cars pulling people up by the dozen .... and bloody good on them if they save lives by doing so. I certainly wouldn't want to be in there shoes helping to take decapitated bodies out of motor vehicle crashes.

BTW ... I have somewhat mellowed over the years and don't do some of the crazy things I did in my youth and as a commercial rep ... and while in the vehicle with SWMBO .... never speed under threat of the dreaded "headache" ... :D

1160170 2010-12-09 09:48:00 Pity that issuing tickets doesn't save lives then isn't it, makes some money though, and it looks like they are doing something.

Its all a charade.

1160171 2010-12-09 09:54:00 Sounds like the 2 here today (www.nzherald.co.nz) down the road.

Around the same area / place. Just before 11, and another @ 1.20 where a motorcyclist died. And a few pics, I took with the mobile. Even tho the news said the guy was speeding, it didnt mention that the cops were chasing him (which is what some of the people said what happened at the time)

1160172 2010-12-09 09:56:00 Gotta agree with you there SP8's, Frequently drive between Dunsandel and Chch myself, they crazy shlt that you see sometimes makes your eyes pop a little bit.

Doesn't matter if it's 3pm or 3am, they're out in force, those morons. Think passing on double-yellows on a passing lane, before swerving to avoid oncoming cars, jeez, wonder how those cars felt.

Oh, not to mention drivers trying to pass while on a bridge, and not noticing oncoming cars. In that case, I was in the oncoming car, had the heart beating a little faster than normal!

1160173 2010-12-09 10:03:00 Ubergeek ... lot of boy racer signs up that way too I noticed.

Metla .... sorry mate ... guy passed us doing around 150 - 160ks on yellow lines ... the cops had him baled up about 15ks down the road ... hope they threw the book at him because he could have wiped out about 4 cars and a bloody petrol tanker coming in the opposite direction.

*555 .... bloody good idea and I'm not afraid to use it.

Hehe, a few? They like to hang out at passing lanes, they do donuts when there's very little traffic, then they lose control and you see the tracks go into the ditch! Serves 'em right. Also a lot of fences with new bits in them.

Also, there's an awful lot of disintegrated truck tyres along that route, kinda worrying.

And threw the book at him means?

It means the cops collect some money and the speedster gets to do it all again whenever he chooses.

Its a charade.

1160176 2010-12-09 17:29:00 Good pictures Speedy, in the third pic the buildings shown are the type that were severely damaged by the earthquake in ChCh, a lot of them have now been demolished along Colombo St, many more to follow in the suburbs.

Plenty of the characteristic landmark clusters of old double story brick with awning shops have gone. Fish and chip shops plus associated Dairy/Secondhand store/Junk shop/Hairdresser etc have been bashed over. The plots they were on seem very small compared to the impression of size they had when the building were still there.

You know not all accidents end up being fatal.

Again not those tell tale marks results in someone death and may not even be the result of an accident or near miss.

On Saturday there was 3 road accidents on a stretch of road within an hour near us no logical reason for 2 of them other than inatention or poor vehicle control, notice I did not say speeding because these cars were most likely below the speed limit.
I can take you along a stretch of road near us were I have been to a lot of accidents and the locations you would not see any signs or understand the reasons why they crashed.

In fact most Motor Vehicle Incidents go unrecorded does not result in carnage.

The accident was reported as being a fatal on Wednesday ... that's why I was looking out for where it happened ... and not on a blind corner, but on a straight piece of road.

Don't know about yesterday's as no reports yet ... hopefully not a fatal.

Metla ... better than doing nothing and by the way you keep on ranting about tickets being a money making tactic you're probably right .... user pays and the farking idiots on the road should pay for the resources used to scrape them off the bloody road. And I suspect you are one who doesn't obey the road rules and puts others at risk ... that's based on your continuing disregard for any type of enforcement designed to reduce the road toll.
