| 1159999 | 2010-12-08 22:56:00 | Hi, we will be spending a night in Chch on the way down and on the way up, could someone suggest some good options re: Asian dim sums and dinner. Folks are interested. Went to Riccarton 2 Christmas ago, think it was Mei Foo but that was closed over the festive season. Assuming Chch still has the traditional dim sum carts (like Auckland and Wellington). Re: international flights out of NZ. Some of the low cost carriers don't include food, it's a additional purchase. I've visited the Flysafe and Customs website to no avail .. I know that you cannot carry liquids greater than 100ml, in some countries like Australia you cannot even have a 500ml bottle with 50ml of liquids. If I am departing NZ, am I allowed to carry a empty bottle through security? What about food? I know if food are sealed like museli bars, chocolate, chippies i can take them but what about a home made sandwich? Or am I left with $5 water bottles and $10 sandwiches at the international terminal. Thanks. |

That's what I do. As for food, who says you can't take your own on the plane? Take what you like and just make sure you eat it all before you land or put it in the bin if there are any leftovers. |

(snip) Have you tried the Foo San in Rountree St off Ilam Road near the university? The place looks terrible, very down market, but it is extremely popular. Great prices too, and not too far away from the airport. Not sure where you and your folks will be staying, but if you are at the Copthorne Commodore Hotel on Memorial Ave, it isn't too far to the restaurant. I haven't seen dim sum carts there - I think you order what you want from the menu. www.dineout.co.nz Make sure you say hi to the cooks as you go in! |

If you have food left over on the plane, make sure you dump it before you try to go through customs at the other end in case they are as paranoid as us (i.e. Australia). Yes we were in Chch 2 Christmas ago Foo San were closed. So looking for a few other good alternatives. We got a motel cannot remember it, :D but we have a motor vehicle. Thanks to the others too :) The trip to thru Chch to Queentown etc .. is a separate trip to overseas. :D |

And neither of these looks any good apart from Foo San restaurants.nzherald.co.nz There is another one called Dim Sum City, but that is in a food court! | 1160008 | 2010-12-09 03:48:00 | Thanks again :) I rang my airline up and cannot cancel the prebooked meal :( $70. Airline food isn't great, plus they really only offer 1 meal and 1 snack b/c hte 2nd meal was just a club sandwich or a danish. They also changed the catering policy since I went with them last time, when I read the fine print. It's no longer unlimited non alcoholic drinks. I thought it was good at least it keeps your throat away from dry. Now they give you 1 hot and 1 cold drink at meal time then every other glass will be paid for. And there is no snacks either. Should be a pretty classy airline menu then, perhaps lead by Peter Gordon :eek: At least the fares were cheap as. |
