1159763 2010-12-08 02:40:00 Son bought one as soon as he got his licence (because he can't be bothered reading maps) and I am surprised at the abysmal pronunciation of Maori street names. Two really bad examples are Tui Street, which comes out as T-U-I Street and Pupuke Road which comes out as Poo Puke Road (maybe the programmer had a nappy problem).

Is this par for the course for all NAVMANs, or do some models do better?

Cheers

1159764 2010-12-08 02:42:00 Pretty typical. I use a somethingorother 30 (think the model before the MY) and it struggles a bit with some maori pronunciation. Don't really see it as being an issue. wratterus (105)
1159765 2010-12-08 02:44:00 Get a NZder to read the names out. nedkelly (9059)

1159767 2010-12-08 03:19:00 We have a garmin and the navigator is obviously Australian. Nothing against that, however, like you have found, Billy the pronunciation of some names, including Maori, leaves a lot to be desired. I am not expecting perfection, but some are way off the beam. Marnie (4574)

1159772 2010-12-08 08:32:00 Was the voice a computer generated one ? On my Tom Tom the computer generated ones
have trouble with place names. Does Navman have other voices you could try ?
