1159610 2010-12-07 05:13:00 Hi

The husband of a friend of SWMBO's heard about a local farmer who wanted some wild turkey's culled, so he (the husband) decided to give it a shot and went and bought a gun specially, thinking that it would also sort out their Christmas dinner (the family's not the turkeys', tho', in a way I suppose it would). During the transaction the guy selling the gun (not sure if it was in a shop or not) told him that you shouldn't shoot turkey's when there's an “r” in the month. When he asked why, it was explained him that that was when the turkeys were eating “crickets” and the meat would be “tainted” as a result. He was a bit sceptical about this, but the gun guy was adamant.

So is this a load of BS or what? :illogical

Thanks

Given that we see more crickets in summer however, something doesn't sound right.

As for tainting the meat - it's not unreasonable.
Try eating asparagus and see how quickly your own fluids get tainted.
(note, not everyone is sensitive to the asparagus effect)

Possibly not. Around 30 years ago I was told that Xmas turkeys were killed and frozen in July so they wouldn't be as tough. What ever the story, it's been around for a while.

1159617 2010-12-07 18:50:00 If they were a game bird it might be different, pheasant tastes awful outside of the shooting season, yet tastes divine once in season. I can vouch for that as probably eaten more of them in my life than I have lamb gary67 (56)
