1159056 2010-12-05 10:05:00 Anyone else noticed these last few days Telecom has been ridiculously slow?

Based in Wellington, no changes to my home network, not downloading updates or anything like that, wireless definitely secured, well under my monthly cap etc etc.

My delicious speeds here (www.speedtest.net).

Have tried ringing them but get nowhere with them (shock horror) and just wondering if anyone else has noticed anything wrong.

Cheers :(

1159057 2010-12-05 10:19:00 I haven't had that trouble, but I did ring them a few days back,Only to be told they were too busy to answer the phone, and to ring back at a more suitable time.

F F S.

Our phone company, can't even answer their own damn phones.

1159058 2010-12-05 10:45:00 Yea it sucks. I have had an utter gutsfull from Telecom though can't switch because no other ISP offers a datacap that suits my flats requirements for a reasonable price.

Bah, lesser of 2 evils I guess. :devil

1159059 2010-12-05 18:29:00 I had problems with their snail-like speeds last night, I got fed up and went to bed. At least I got an extra hour's sleep! Marnie (4574)
1159060 2010-12-05 18:58:00 Have had a couple of customers complain the nets a bit slower and with Telecom (not that slow though), but then again could be the time of the year, schools out.

DemonHunter -- interesting comment -- I have to exact opposite, telecom came knocking to try an get us to change -- but they couldn't match what I have now for the price.

What are your requirements / pricing ?

1159061 2010-12-05 19:11:00 If you go to telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps and throw in your address, what does it say is available in your area and when is / was it changing?

What make / model router do you have?

Whats your line sync speed / attenuation / SNR?

Then, we can tell you relatively quick if its Telecom or not ...

Nothing new here, its been fine up until the last week(ish).

Make and model of the router is the default Thomson - argh I know but don't have the $$ to get a decent one atm, it has been fine until now anyway. I'll have to get the rest of the details once I get back home.

As for plans/pricing we need at least 40gb a month with nation-wide calls for a reasonable price, we currently pay $140/month for those services with Telecom and are also on their double-data promotion (so 80gb) but that will go back down to 40gb sometime in the new year.

Had a look at some plans from Orcon, similar costs for 30gb with 5/10gb upgrade packages at a reasonable price, considering going with them, but would need to do some research to see how good their speeds are atm (comments anyway? :o)

So yea... fun times. Last night it was slower than dial-up. Even sites like stuff.co.nz (hosted in nz?) was slower than a half-dead flea on crutches.

1159063 2010-12-05 19:51:00 Thomson TG585, free one? They're crap... See if you can get me those details from your routers status page, but yeah I'd strongly suggest you try and get yourself something *decent*.

Also, where is it physically situated? It could well be overheating.

BTW - Ring Telecom and tell them you heard about the Christmas double-your-data special, even if you've got a month or two, they should sign you back up for another 12 months and keep your data doubled :)

1159064 2010-12-05 20:05:00 Yea its the default piece of awesomeness (sarcastic smiley?) - I'll have to get those details to you once I get home.

Any recommendations on a not bad router that I can install Tomato on that isn't going to break my bank?

The double data isn't part of their xmas special, a few months ago they had a deal running, that if you signed up with them, you got double data for 6 or 12 months. And thanks to a glitch with their billing department we got that (even though I have been with them about 2 years now).

I thought it could've been overheating too, but it seems to be fine, plenty of air circulation around it.

1159065 2010-12-05 20:45:00 I have the free Thompson with Telekom speed good but lately it does disconnects then reconnects. You should the screams of rage from my computer addicted boy when he is playing some games.
Could it be the router or something else?
