| 1159116 | 2010-12-15 03:47:00 | And you can see from the uptime value, I am still getting disconnects (since I have not manually rebooted the modem - apparently I have had 8 or so disconnects today - about half of which happened at 9 . 00AM, when I was at work and my teenage son was still in bed - so no load to speak of) . The usual threshold before they send a technician is 10 a day, but because this has been an ongoing problem . . . . Technician coming out tomorrow . . . Luckily I have the line maintenance fee to cover me for any re-wiring they might need to do . . . EDIT: I'm on ADSL2+ I am getting about 5 or 6 disconnects a day do think its definitely the router? Should I get another Thomson from telekom or go to DSE and get another brand? Is this Thompson the same french firm which makes aircraft electronics? |

| 1159117 | 2010-12-15 04:12:00 | They are French but I don't know if they have anything to do with avionics. (en.wikipedia.org) Their hardware is OK, but I personally find the configuration interface for the Thomson\Speedtouch routers to be hideous. Most people probably never look at the interface and probably don't care, though. |

I am not a geek el supremo like you huas . Usually when I have play with settings I normally get myself into some irretrievable mess and have to ring the computer lady . Had some good help from Wainui and others saved me money calling out the computer geek chick i use . Is there something I can play with to stop the disconnects? Got nothing to lose with a DSE in New Lynn . |

| 1159119 | 2010-12-15 07:25:00 | On the Telecom ones they have locked you out of doing anything related to ADSL configuration. If you flashed it to a generic firmware you may get some extra features... But it shouldn't be unstable anyway. It's more likely something to do with your line than the router's settings (unless the router is faulty) I'd ring the helpdesk, see what they say and maybe they will swap your router for a new one. If that doesn't fix it then something else is probably stuffed |

| 1159120 | 2010-12-15 08:44:00 | So whats with mine? I don't lose connection, but it times out a lot or lags badly. It's done it since I moved into this house on 9th November. Stats from modem: Up Stream 796 (Kbps.) Down Stream 16370 (Kbps.) Noise Margin 13 dB / 11 dB Attenuation 3 dB / 1 dB HEC Error 11 CRC Error 10 If you're having issues, it can't hurt to ring your ISP, your SnR is *ok* but could be a little better. Ask them to change your DSL profile, see if that fixes things. Whats your current router make / model? When you say "lags out", if you have a download going at the time, does it keep going? Or does it slow down as though you've pulled the plug? What about online games? Or is it just browsing that appears to have "frozen"? @GameJunkie I wouldn't specifically, it really depends on the application. Personally I'd use the Draytek over the NB6Plus4Wn because I'd also use it in conjunction with something like a WL-520GU (Which I have running Gargoyle, except I use an AM300 instead of a DV120), or a WRT54GL. The NB6Plus4Wn is probably the best consumer-level all-in-one router I know of, well priced, and easy to setup. The DV120 or AM300 would be for the techie people who wanted advanced features or greater control, through the use of Gargoyle / Tomato firmware :) |

| 1159121 | 2010-12-15 10:29:00 | OK - the Chorus guy came today - was expecting him to have been by the time I got home around 5.30, but he turned up just before six, and didn't finish his fixing until after 7PM!! He checked all the jackpoints in the house - turns out that one we got installed about 6 years ago (the newest one) had some corrosion on the terminals and was causing short-circuits: dropouts. He replaced the jackpoint and installed a splitter (no charge!!) so now I have a dedicated jackpoint for internet and can take the filters off all the phones!! Anyone having similar problems to what I have described in this thread, I can really recommend talking to the Help Desk and making an issue of it. |

Spent ages doing tracerts and pings and stuff. tech said profile etc good. New ASUS modem. remember - I've had a million modems. This is new. lag - takes forever to load a page, may or may not time out. Adjusted browser settings so less timing out, more lag. No particular websites, local or not. Random, intermittent, but not ver intermittent. Been doing it ever since connected, 8th Nov. Tried another Pc as requested this morning. Zilch. Haven't tried another modem yet. |

| 1159123 | 2010-12-15 23:46:00 | What are you using for DNS? Do downloads continue going while this "lag" occurs? What about gaming? |

| 1159124 | 2010-12-16 01:30:00 | What are you using for DNS? Do downloads continue going while this "lag" occurs? What about gaming? I've tried auto, OpenDNS and they made me try Googles. None made a difference. What downloads? I don't much. Did download 2 things in the past month, 1 of them crapped out at the end twice but succeeded the third time - very speedily too, the other seemed to be going OK, after taking an age to get to the website in the first place, but I then cancelled it half way through. I game offline, not on. They made me try a proxy too. Seemed to be worse. |
