2010-12-09 20:03:00 | I drive fro Timaru to Christchurch every saturday and have done for the past few months. I have yet to see anyone come close to a crash yet although I remember about 6 months ago we almost reached the end of the passing lane when some idiot passed us and he moved across onto the beginning of the opposite passing lane, causing 2 cars to swerve!!! :pf1mobmini:

2010-12-09 21:15:00 | I drive fro Timaru to Christchurch every saturday and have done for the past few months. I have yet to see anyone come close to a crash yet Popular misconception that to have a crash involves another vehicle in collision. Second misconception is all road accidents result in death or injury! Plenty of near misses though which is why the Transit Authorities get the Police to issue tickets for breaches of the conditions of Licence to drive. Some call it revenue gathering well to be honest if some enforcement was not done the road toll would be much higher.

2010-12-09 21:19:00 | Metla ... better than doing nothing and by the way you keep on ranting about tickets being a money making tactic you're probably right .... user pays and the farking idiots on the road should pay for the resources used to scrape them off the bloody road. And I suspect you are one who doesn't obey the road rules and puts others at risk ... that's based on your continuing disregard for any type of enforcement designed to reduce the road toll. yeah, thats a pretty stupid post you made there, The current system encourages repeat offenders to keep offending, It is users pays, but only if you want to. People are sometimes taxed for breaking the rules but are generally free to carry on as they please. Our complacency on this issue is a support for the status quo, We as a society accept death on our roads as it suits us, and when I say us I mean you as well. If you want change then stand up and demand it, if not then nod to the nice policeman charging some fool $150 for putting the lives of others at risk. The entire system starting with driver training, monitoring and enforcement is pathetic and weak, its designed to allow everyone to be on the road no matter what their abilities are, and the enforcement system is a show pony and nothing more.

2010-12-09 21:44:00 | Don't know about yesterday's as no reports yet ... hopefully not a fatal. It was not fatal and no injuries if thats the one where the car went into the ditch? Also it is in that article you linked to. Metla ... better than doing nothing and by the way you keep on ranting about tickets being a money making tactic you're probably right .... user pays and the farking idiots on the road should pay for the resources used to scrape them off the bloody road. Given most of the time spent at the scenes of these incidents are by Voluntery Fire Service, maybe more the money alloacted for the resources should be directed towards compensating the Volunteers who give up their work and free time to help out victims of road inicidents? Everyone reliant and expects the Big Red Truck with the rescue gear to arrive yet little do you realise that it can be difficult to get a crew together. Many volunteers who after attending a serious road accidents find it is not for them and reluctant to do the job! Can you blame them when it is a free service on offer but we expect them to no matter what. If the Police Enforcement cuts down on the disregard to Road Rules and prevents even one accident then the ticketing works! However when there is an over zealous and misdirected approach with piss poor penalties then the respect is nt there in the first place to obey the rules. I notice more and more a blatent disregard for crossing solid yellow lines because they are inconvieniant and the attitude of so what! Yet those lines are there for a reason same as road work speedlimits. They may inconvieniance you but they are a road rule and there for a reason not for you to ignore! Personally I think that kind of stuff is not enforced enough....rant over.

Ticketing isn't enforcing anything, Its just a system to allow people to continue on their way. and in no way was anything I said a slight against the fire service or anyone else involved in mopping up the carnage. Hers my guide to fixing the road toll. Price people off the road, Just like they have done with motorcycles.$3000 a year for rego should do it, and triple the price of petrol Ban all cars older then 10 years off the road Make the training system real, Its a joke. Provide real training and lets say three months of closely monitored driving, and if you fail then thats your lot, No license, ever. You're not fit to be on the road Repeat training every two years Mandatory jail time for driving offenses that put others at risk, such as crossing yellow lines. 2 weeks in the slammer, no court date, no going home, straight from the car to the jail, see you in two weeks where you will be presented with a bill for the cost of your sentence. Charge people with murder when they kill others with their cars. Micro-fining people and sending them on their way doesn't work, The proof of this is on the front page of nearly every newspaper. |

2010-12-09 22:07:00 | Metla for President!! EDIT: Actually, I would also add: If caught driving on a public road without the necessary credentials, go to jail, do not pass go. See you in two years, no time off for good behaviour. Car is crushed - don't care who owns it, or what goods are currently inside it. And like Metla says, the invoice for the cost of your incarceration will be presented on your release.
