1159905	2010-12-08 22:33:00	Maoris land they quite often dont pay rates on it but the PC councils dont come down hard on them like they do to us Europeans. With forestry blocks they commonly accept royalty cheques but dont send out rates cheques. A lot of the cheques are going to people on benefits it really sux.	prefect (6291)

1159908	2010-12-08 23:38:00	1. Probably time NZ has a written Constitution. 2. Abolish Maori Seats. 3. Laws that are drafted in Parliament need to say what they actually mean rather than relying on Courts and lawyers to interpret what they think Parliament meant when passing Act, Bills, Regulations, Amendments and etc. 4. Settle all outstanding claims as FULL and FINAL. 5. Consider becoming a Republic so the Treaty of Waitangi ( as it was signed ) becomes null and void and no longer open to various interpretions much like the laws drafted today are. 6. The Maori are a tribal culture and as such I note that many claim affiliation with several Iwi, Hapu, Whanua and etc which allows people to wear several hats in discussions. Many claim to speak on behalf of one group or another and in fact some can't really claim that with any truth or they may be mistaken rather than outright lies. 7. Maori land etc seems an issue within Maori in so far as it can't really be sold without the agreement of all co-owners and as the many owners can't agree the land is often left lying fallow and not productive. The land is often leased to a person or persons who will work on it though. Rates on land owned by Maori are often not paid as just who do you send the rate demand to? 8. It also has to be said that many Maori see nothing from these settlements either and many are not activists and many are tired of the grievance industry as are other NZ Citizens. I could go on but I guess it won't change much. I might add that I am a fifth generation Kiwi for the record. 1. Didn't help the Americans, Patriot Act over rules Constitution. 2. Yep 3. Yep 4. Leave our Queen alone! 6. Whats the figure, 90%+ of people on the Maori electrol roll are less than 50% Maori making them kiwis with "Some" Maori ancestry. 7. Why would they want to sell there precious sacred land for modern cold hard $$ ? seems very suspicious are we being conned? 8. Yep work with two kiwis with some Maori ancestry, both think the process is largely a money grab and the politicians know it.
