1159620 2010-12-07 20:57:00 I can find several references to wild turkeys tasting "gamey" while they are eating insects and milder during winter but as far as toughness goes the only comments are that they are full of stringy tendons all the time :D PaulD (232)
1159621 2010-12-07 21:13:00 If they're wild turkeys they should taste "gamey" ... they're not being fed GE grain supplemented with antibiotics as their main diet.

I believe the main reason is to do with breading seasons .... that's why duckshooting starts in May ends in June (depending on where you shoot) The summer months are breading and new season ducks can't fly properly till around January / February and they have to have time to put some weight on to make them worthwhile shooting for the table ... not to mention the feathers aren't fully developed until colder months and anyone who's tried plucking a duck with quill feathers will tell you that its a pain in the proverbial ... here endith the lesson for today ... back to work minions .... :D

1159622 2010-12-07 21:17:00 As for tainting the meat - it's not unreasonable.
Try eating asparagus and see how quickly your own fluids get tainted.
(note, not everyone is sensitive to the asparagus effect)
Fluids. Not meat.

Sounds like bollocks to me.

1159623 2010-12-07 22:02:00 Sorry pctek ... but diet does affect the flavour of meat. Wild pork is much stronger in flavour and the meat is darker in colour than grain fed cousins ... wild venison is stronger than grass farmed and wild duck is stronger in flavour than farmed.

It's one reason why hunters go wandering around the hills to get the "real" thing ... not plastic packed force fed imitations.

1159624 2010-12-08 00:12:00 Wild pork almost tastes like another meat I think its the bracken and fern roots prefect (6291)
1159625 2010-12-08 07:48:00 Wild pork is delicious. Totally different from farmed pork.
As for the turkeys all you need is a club to knock them on the head when at night they are asleep on a gate or whatever.

Thats is so totally not as much fun as blasting them with a shotgun during the day.
What does Joe think of us shooting the USAs national bird?

1159627 2010-12-08 21:52:00 I thought the national bird for the USA was an Eagle.

Taliking of which, "It's hard to fly like a eagle when you work with turkeys."
