2010-12-05 20:46:00 | I have the free Thompson with Telekom speed good but lately it does disconnects then reconnects. You should the screams of rage from my computer addicted boy when he is playing some games. Could it be the router or something else? I have the exact same problem. Random disconnects.

2010-12-05 21:07:00 | Things have been great for me on Telecom recently, 6.5mbit down, .7mbit up on standard ADSL, no disconnects for 11 days now....using a nice Netcomm modem though not the awesomeness that is the Thomson. Out of interest, which version of the TG585 do you have? An early bunch of the V.8 had all kinds of fun issues.

2010-12-05 21:17:00 | They're crap routers that overheat lots and drop under load. Even the v7 sucks. Basically, if it has "ADSL", it won't do Tomato. You can get yourself something like an AM300 in Halfbridge, or even just a regular 1-port ADSL modem of some description and suffer from double-NAT if you really don't care. Personally, get a Linksys AM300 + WRT54GL. Easy, and will only set you back approx $200 :)

2010-12-05 21:17:00 | BTW - Ring Telecom and tell them you heard about the Christmas double-your-data special, even if you've got a month or two, they should sign you back up for another 12 months and keep your data doubled :) I rang them and the lady told me she hadn't heard about that...???

2010-12-05 21:58:00 | Can't say I noticed any speed issues at my end, haven't used it past 11pm though. | pctek (84) | |
2010-12-05 22:00:00 | I had problems last night too (we're on Telecom), kept dropping. When it was up it was quite slow, but normal for a Sunday evening :) When I changed to use Google's DNS it made it a little more stable. Eventually I gave up and VPNed into work and surfed from there :p

2010-12-05 22:47:00 | Damn, edit option doesn't hang around long. So I'm thinking either the Linksys AM300 (pconlineshop.co.nz) or the NetComm NB6 (pbtech.co.nz) or the NetComm NB14 (www.ascent.co.nz) for the ADSL side of things and I snaffled a Asus WL-520GU off trademe for $50 which I shall get Tomato running on and can finally do some traffic management (yes I'm look at you, my bad torrenting flatmates). And then at least I shall know all the stuff at my end is fine so then I can go back to moaning at Telecom :D Fun times.
