| 1195761 | 2011-04-20 02:44:00 | I have got this Sony VaioVGN-SZ32GP unable to load Windows (virus infected); I need to back up some important pictures before reinstalling XP. Have tried Slax Linux CD but it doesn't allow me to write data to my external HDD. Unbunt 10 somehow unable to boot at all. Removing the HDD and connect it to another machine probably is the best way to go but I can't locate the HDD - it must be hidden somewhere! Is there any other simple program to boot up and copy those pictures out? |

What I am trying to say is, it's a crazy way of positioning the HDD which should be designed in such a way that it may be fairly easily replaced if necessary by a end user. Don't you think it's crazy? How much will the repair shop charge if you were to send it for replacement? |

| 1195767 | 2011-04-20 11:29:00 | I see what you meant, now. I would agree it's very badly designed (the worst I've seen) from the ease of access point of view, I'd say they'd charge you at least a couple of hours (2x $90-100ish), plus the new drive (another $100 plus). Most of the laptops I've repaired (just about every one, the HDD has died) take a few minutes to change the drive. |
