1195035 2011-04-16 11:11:00 Something is sending random messages to people in my gmail contacts. What should I do? They don't seem to appear in the sent items list and they contain a weird link that won't open. bot (15449)
1195036 2011-04-16 11:30:00 First thing, change the password, then in your settings, under Accounts and import ---- Change password recovery options ---- theres the option of an alternative email address.

Check that its still the same one you originally setup, if its changed to what you set then change it or even do change it to another trusted address - other wise if someone has hacked the account, they will be smart enough to change that address and be sent the new password.

If someone has spoofed the account details, then theres not a lot you can do about it.

Edited: The above is assuming you are using Gmail as web based and not sending / receiving from your computer.

"if " and its a big if, someone was logging in then it would be easy enough to go into the sent items and delete the trace, then remove from trash.

1195038 2011-04-16 22:45:00 Have you checked for malware lately.

Could be "barking up the wrong tree" as the saying goes, but by the link shown, it may be linked to a site that has some sort of ecards ( which dont work) http://boyx.tk/ Any of this ring a bell as to activity on the PC ?

1195039 2011-04-16 23:19:00 I'm using Gmail with Windows Live mail.

This could be a clue to the problem.

1195040 2011-04-16 23:26:00 The full "Received" headers will tell you where it came from, although only the last (top) one is guaranteed to be correct (assuming you trust YOUR mailserver, gmail in this case).

Fake DSN's (Delivery Service Notification) are the current delivery method of choice for spammers.

1195041 2011-04-16 23:35:00 One way that may tell if its your Gmail account or something on your computer -- Open live mail and send an email to yourself, when it comes back in, see if it has that link.

If it does, then close live mail, log into Gmail via the web based, and send another to yourself. Open Live mail and see what comes in - if its clean then there may be something on your Computer causing it.

Gmail works perfectly Via live mail once its setup correctly.

1195042 2011-04-17 00:46:00 I have a guest page with details of people who have lived in Kenya. One of my friends had his 'Hotmail' account hacked and I received email from "him" to say that he was in financial strife in Nigeria and needed money. I phoned his son and asked him where his dad was and he was in England.
I replied to the Hotmail message asking a few questions and got a reply, which proved that they had full control of the Email address and could edit it to hide their messages.
I may be wrong, but could Windows Mail be another name for Hotmail?
Why not use your ISP's free email service?

1195043 2011-04-17 08:34:00 I have seen a hacked gmail account where the hacker has added a forwarding address into the email settings - the hacker then gets copies of all incomming emails. Might pay to check. wuppo (41)
1195044 2011-04-17 10:44:00 Anyway with Gmail you can check activity history and IP at the bottom of the screen, click on details where it says like;

Last account activity: 21 minutes ago on this computer. Details
