| 1158848 | 2010-12-04 19:52:00 | My old VCR player has belt problems, won't rewind or fast forward and short of going to a service repair shop is there anyway I can correct this? Is it easy to replace the belts or does one need a degree in Advanced Engineering, and where would one get the belts from anyway? I have a number of tapes that are now useless without a plyer so I went looking and of course can't find a new VCR Player for love or money. I could go to the likes of Trademe but that doesn't guarantee that I wont run into belt problems soon after I get one. Any comments? |

| 1158849 | 2010-12-04 20:02:00 | You can still get new DVD/VCR combo units. | PaulD (232) | ||

| 1158851 | 2010-12-04 23:26:00 | They should still be making VCR's. people still use them. I have a really good HI-FI 6 head NICAM-Stereo multi standard: pal, ntsc, secam VCR that was givin to me, it's awesome! and i can tape things and it will look DVD quality. It sure beats the el cheapo sanyo vcr that i use for watching tv. |

VHS won out in the end. Don't think there's too much competition for DVDs though, although I have seen some confusion as to which system someone should buy. I advised them to stick to the main format where, like VHS, their DVDs and player, will be compatible with the majority. And do you know why VHS, despite it not being the best quality, became the most popular? The dirty video purveyors in the UK were becoming annoyed at having to make their naughty tapes in more than one format, so they made an arbitrary decision and said they would only make pornographic tapes in VHS and so it became the most used and therefore the standard. Interesting, eh? |

I'm assuming the cro-mags understand that Blu-ray players also play DVD's, and even upscale them so they even get a new sheen to them. |
