2011-04-25 08:17:00 | Hi, I purchased a new Motherboard and CPU in Jan this year - Asus M4N78 SE with a AMD Athlon 11 x2 255 dual core 3.1ghz cpu. I re-used my 2 x 1 gb memory DIMMS and have a ASUS 8400GS VGA card. I am running windows XP Pro. From day one when powered up it starts up for 3 seconds when stops for 5 seconds and repeats this three times before starting up and running fine. No error beeps at all. Yesterday it started up and did so twice before stopping altogether and stayed that way. I re-tried 4 or 5 times with the same outcome. The led on board the MB is lit so is getting power put then as now, the fan in the PSU stops in the down times. The monitor starts, briefly of course and the DVD drive lights up also briefly before it powers down again. Today I went and purchased another PSU thinking that was the problem and no it isn't, as I still have the same problem. I have unplugged everything, including monitor and it is just the same. Any thoughts please? | dok (8350) | |

2011-04-25 08:28:00 | From the receipt, 3.1ghz, 2mb cache AM3 CPU (65w) Box doesn't have this much that I can see sorry. BIOS is the same as it came with, hadn't thought to update! | dok (8350) | |
2011-04-25 08:30:00 | Well someone did a typo. Those are the only 255 cpus, on the ASUS site. And neither have 2 mb cache. Does the box something like the above (ADX255OCK23GM or ADX255OCK23GQ() on it? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2011-04-25 08:34:00 | On the top of the box it says - X2 255 AMD Athlon 11 x2 Processor 3.1ghz True Dual Core 2.0MB Total Cache Socket AM3 w/Heat Sink Fan | dok (8350) | |
2011-04-25 08:40:00 | Oh the very small writing! adx255ocgo (or Q - hard to read such small writing) box then the serial # | dok (8350) | |
2011-04-25 08:49:00 | Looks like its adx255ocgmbox . So, youre right . It does have 2 mb cache . Wonder why its not on the ASUS site then . Go into the BIOS, or see what BIOS appears on the post screen (press pause on the keyboard after you reboot)

2011-04-25 09:00:00 | it isn't going far enough to let anything happen like that unfortunately. 3 seconds is too quick for it to start booting beyong just the power up stage or attempt. | dok (8350) | |
2011-04-25 09:03:00 | So it cant post / boot at all then?? Did you build this yourself? Did you connect the CPU fan and ATX 12v 4 pin connector (from the PSU) to the motherboard? If you did, I would take it back to where you brought the CPU from . And ask if they could put a lower spec CPU in it . Then flash the BIOS . It sounds like the CPU fan or ATX 12v connector isnt plugged in . Or the system / BIOS, doesnt support the CPU thats on it
