1195827 2011-04-20 06:33:00 She's been at it again! The wife's been to the auctions today and has come home with a couple of cartons of books. Amongst the books is a box of software and I was wondering if it's legal to sell some of it.

Microsoft Office 2003 (student & teacher {3 licences }) Looks UNUSED
Window XP Home Edition (has a sticker ' for dist with new HPQ PC only') UNOPENED
Microsoft Word 2000 (again for new PC only)
HP Quick restore A System Recovery CD XP Home SP1 UNOPENED
HP notebook Operating System CD Windows XP Home SP1 UNOPENED

Is any of this software suitable for general use or must it be used for specific computers?

Cheers :clap

1195828 2011-04-20 08:20:00 This is all "Legally" -

Microsoft Office 2003 (student & teacher {3 licences }) Looks UNUSED If its unused, then no reason why it cant be installed. Even if it were, the worst its going to do is say its exceeded the number of licenses, which would result in a call to MS, and as far as you know its not on any other PC's ( which isn't lying ) and they would manually activate them.

Window XP Home Edition (has a sticker ' for dist with new HPQ PC only') UNOPENED As long as it hasn't been used, and it has the actual product key - should install, but it looks like its an HP supplied version of XP, which once again is OEM, and "legally" meant to be installed on the new HP PC ?

Microsoft Word 2000 (again for new PC only)
It will be OEM
HP Quick restore A System Recovery CD XP Home SP1 UNOPENED
HP notebook Operating System CD Windows XP Home SP1 UNOPENED Basically coasters, rubbish unless you have the correct Model of HP computer to go with them. They will be HP recovery CD's, which have drivers, and all the other HP junk they put on their PC's, they wont work on other PC's as they will be looking for the correct hardware.

This is useable. legality according to MS though.........hmmm. Trademe probably won't let you list it.

Window XP Home Edition (has a sticker ' for dist with new HPQ PC only') UNOPENED
Microsoft Word 2000 (again for new PC only)

These are of no use.

Trademe dont really seem to care. Trademe is riddled with fake MS software, Ive had to try & 'fix' , after customers have bought fake software & then been surprised it doesnt work

I mean to say, if its 1/4 the retail price, they(trademe & the buyers) know its fake. I even told one of my clients not to buy it. He did anyway.

But that MS Office will be a retail pack. You will be able to re-sell it, just make sure you let the buyer know its unknown if its been used.
