1161270 2010-12-13 04:17:00 I recently told a friend I was thinking about going on a holiday to africa and my friend told me the travel agent will require me to get immunised before I go. I have travelled to aussie, uk, america and I was never told I needed to get immunised by the travel agent so why now? It is part of a visa requirement? tombrownzz (16109)
1161271 2010-12-13 04:30:00 Bloody good luck to you if you don't get immunised and travelling to a third world country ... been there done that ... not pretty ! SP8's (9836)

1161274 2010-12-13 04:52:00 Many borders will require you to have a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate. As you are going to a country with Yellow Fever, you will probably be denied entry to other countries afterwards unless you can provide your certificate.

Some of the diseases, for example Malaria, can kill you or severely compromised your future health. It is worth getting anti-malaria medication before you leave. You should also get DEET (at least 40% conc) insect repellent too.

There are many other health risks such as Hepatitis, TB and Diphtheria. Have a look at the CDC Health Information for Travelers (wwwnc.cdc.gov) and check what the recommendations are for the regions you will visit in Africa.

Countries such as UK, USA and Australia have much more minimal health risks, so you don't really need vaccinations for that.

looking forward to that? I think not.

1161276 2010-12-14 17:56:00 I've had mates suffer Dengue fever and Malaria. Dengue doesn't have an imunity shot, but why gamble? Even places you might take for granted like Missisippi can have their own exotic nasties... it's not just the 3rd world with organisms you need to fear. Paul.Cov (425)
1161277 2010-12-14 18:57:00 Your travel insurance may not pay out if you get sick and haven't had the appropriate vaccinations either ... just to add a happy ending to your travel plans ... :D SP8's (9836)
