1161078 2010-12-12 23:32:00 No one really wants to acknowledge that our crime has gotten to the point where it is necessary to arm the police but we are there.

Per capita the sheer amount of attacks on police warrant action being taken.

And yes, I think if they institute a proper firearms policy they will have to spend the money on training, the media scrutiny alone would make it mandatory. They could not afford an accident.

BTW the guy with the golf club deserved to be shot, it was advanding on the officer with said club and they are NOT trained to shoot to maim.

Flying into cloud and then trying to use your AHI for the first time usually ends in CBD (crash burn die)

1161080 2010-12-12 23:37:00 yes, we should execute people for vandalism :stare:

After all, Its not like windows can be repaired, and think of the pain they were in.

Its not about whether the police can afford an accident (they can, it happens all the time) but whether we as a society are going to accept the results of their actions.

But like I said, Give em guns if thats what they require, but make em accountable. Charge any cop that fires a bullet and let him prove it was a required and lawfull act.

If we have a force that uniformly believes they have the right to execute the people of NZ for breaking a window then this country is already ****ed.

Indeed, and thats the point that so many people don't seem to be able to comprehend, or just ignore it as it doesn't suit them.

1161082 2010-12-12 23:39:00 Of course the Crims will start driving around in cars with firearms on board in response to this. They simply don't care! Snorkbox (15764)
1161083 2010-12-12 23:40:00 I have no problems with the guy that had the golf club being shot....i don't know why people think its okay to ignore police instructions...however i don't think arming all police is the answer.... SolMiester (139)
1161084 2010-12-12 23:42:00 As Greg O'Connor said today.
Once the NZ police are armed, in six months time, we will have forgotten about it.

Hell in many other countries the police have machine guns.

And if judges gave out serious sentences and they were cumulative there would soon be a huge drop in crime.

There is not much pint in being a drug dealer if you get caught and had to spend say 30 years in jail with NO chance of coming out.

1161085 2010-12-12 23:42:00 Oh come on.
Our police will receive appropriate firearms training, no yahoo is going to shoot someone for pulling a face or making a comment, do you really have so little an opinion of our police force?
Some of them yes. With every section of society there is about 5 to 8% that ruin it for the rest.
We have had cops planting evidence.

1161086 2010-12-12 23:44:00 I do not think they should be armed. The thought of some police officers being armed scares me. I do think they perhaps need better training and tougher entry requirements.

Guess you never travel overseas then or even as far as one of our intl airports??

1161087 2010-12-13 00:21:00 Just looked at pictures of the cop attacked with a machete. Horrifies me that anyone would dare to attack a police officer here. Should shoot those criminals dead on the spot. I don't care about their age, they are old enough to know what they've done and they're just a massive drain on society anyway. qazwsxokmijn (102)
