1160788 2010-12-14 10:45:00 I find that the program guide doesn't always work, it shows up all channels as blank. It's probably true with the crap & repeats they show they may as well be & sometimes it throws a wobbler. Try to change channels, it freezes & after a random time (0-30 secs) goes either to zero or 28. After that it behaves itself again for a while.
Not sure if it's a decoder thing or just sky standard service

1160789 2010-12-14 12:33:00 No, your decoder is acting up. Give sky a ring, ask for a nice new pace box.

I wouldn't be surprised if they (NDS/Sky) had stopped manufacture of all non-pace's now. The design is so old and depreciated, not to mention that pace makes the MySky boxes.

High time they came out with a new standard STB that has enough RAM to hold an EPG, a CPU powerful enough to redraw a page of EPG data without constantly flashing the screen, and, please, reduce the lag between switching channels! (although I suspect that's because of the encryption behind the scenes).

1160790 2010-12-15 04:40:00 Well my component cable arrived today and its all hooked up. It must make a difference, but clearly not a obvious one. Jen (38)
1160791 2010-12-15 06:59:00 Unfortunately, that's the end result of over-compressed MPEG2 streams, as that allows sky to fit more channels into the available satellite bandwidth.

Slightly OT; have you tried out iSky yet? It's free for all sky subscribers, you just have to register for it first. I've been meaning to whip the account-holder into action here.

Agreed! The compression by the broadcast is shocking, Freeview have done the same to squeeze more channels in via satellite.

1160793 2010-12-15 10:36:00 I had mine connected with scart to component. It was a bit better than composite, but when the decoder was changed to a hdmi unit, it was much better. It made the telly watchable. Not hd, but good enough.
I still haven't rang sky regarding mine playing up. Forgot.

1160794 2010-12-15 19:24:00 People make me laugh moaning about the quality of Sky. Back in the good old black and white days we couldn't watch TV sometimes for 2 or 3 days because of atmospheric conditions and that was in the days of TV run by the NZBC from Wellington.

Heh, NZBC... being a young fella I can't complain too much about them, after all they did one hellova lotta groundwork in terms of infrastructure. Hell, at the Sugarloaf transmitter there's still a stonking great 'N Z B C' stone plate in the ground behind the door (which is fully locked and alarmed if you're wondering, and the transmitter is unmanned ;) don't ask now I know), despite the fact that the site is now owned and managed by Kordia.
