1196794 2011-04-25 01:22:00 Hi, All.

Every day, or so, I get a persistent pop-up wanting me to download IE 8. I'm happy with what I've got. It does not have a 'go away for ever' button; just a 'cancel' and 'remind me later' buttons. Is there a way of permanently getting rid of the pop-up?

Cheers

1196795 2011-04-25 01:25:00 Where is it appearing? In IE or what? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1196796 2011-04-25 01:30:00 Hi, Speedy. Yes, within IE on opening. IE is the default browser. Pop-Up blocker is on (but I guess that doesn't apply to those initiated by MS,themselves). Cheers. A Team (13613)
1196797 2011-04-25 01:34:00 So what version of IE is installed? 6 or 7? Cant say I've seen this come up in IE before Speedy Gonzales (78)
1196798 2011-04-25 01:36:00 Not sure. Looks like 8. How can I tell? A Team (13613)
1196799 2011-04-25 01:37:00 Relevant file names have '7' in them, so i guess it's 7. Cheers. A Team (13613)
1196800 2011-04-25 01:42:00 Look under help / about. I doubt its 8, or it wouldnt be asking / nagging you. Or use another browser Speedy Gonzales (78)
1196801 2011-04-25 01:51:00 Not sure. Looks like 8. How can I tell?

Help/About will give the version no.

I would update to 8 for security reasons, alone. And if you are using Vista SP2 or win 7 I would update to IE9!

But, your choice, obviously.

1196802 2011-04-25 02:12:00 As linw posted, its better for security reasons.

it will be coming through Via Windows update ( normally) you can disable it by doing a reg hack, or even try This blocker (www.microsoft.com) from MS.

1196803 2011-04-25 04:19:00 Thanks, All.

It is actually IE8 that I have already, but the pop-up keeps on coming.

Whereto from here?

Cheers.
