1196737 2011-04-23 23:14:00 My Epson Color 670 uses two cartridges - a black and a colour one.
the colour cartridge will print in colours except for black and the black one prints out a blank page. Before I give up and buy a new printer is there anything I can try apart from using the utility to prime and clean the print head nozzles (which I have done). I don't feel like buying another black cartridge just to try it out and possibly waste money. I already have another new colour cartridge which will also be surplus if I buy a new printer. If I do have to buy a new printer what is the difference between each of the Canon Pixma models (e.g. ip3600, 4700 etc) apart from price?

1196738 2011-04-24 00:45:00 Is the Black a genuine Epson, or a refilled / third party compatible ?

Was it printing Ok , then suddenly stopped the Black, ?

Also, how much use does it get - if its not a lot, you may find the ink has dried up in the print heads are clogged with dry ink.

You can try the Epson Service utility (www.ssclg.com) and see if it helps at all.

1196739 2011-04-24 03:16:00 Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the Epson utility but no improvement.
Will get a new Canon Pixma printer. Any recommendations?

Epson used to be the top brand, when I was in the workforce 19 years ago, lol.

Wifey has a Canon MP640 which she thrashes for her craft work and it seems to be doing ok.

Lurking.

Ps. price may be a bit steep tho.

lurks.

1196742 2011-04-24 07:31:00 Get it refilled from Cartridge World, they guarantee the product so if it does not work you might have a way out. PENTIUM (426)

1196744 2011-04-24 22:52:00 I've had some success soaking the print jets in a shallow pool of water as a means of clearing blocked jets.

Others talk of using distilled/deionised water, but from my experience that is over the top. The chlorinated, fluoridated, aluminated stuff from the tap seems to be fine.

1196745 2011-04-25 20:51:00 Hi Paul
How do I remove the jets to clean them? Is it complicated? Cheers.

1196746 2011-04-26 03:22:00 Have soaked cartridge nozzle in warm water and put isopropyl alcohol in cartridge socket. No joy so will soak it overnight. Good demonstrations on YouTube - very helpful. Krad (7878)
