1197284 2011-04-26 12:38:00 Setup ubuntu netbook 10.10 on a spare acer laptop at a mates place. They Just leave it running 24/7 so I thought I would make a handy print server.

The print clients would be:
Laptop (windows XP)
Apple iPhone 3GS
Apple iPhone 4

The apples are not necessary but it would be nice to have them work if possible.

I managed to set up CUPS correctly (I think) according to several sites however under networks, windows 7 cannot see the Ubuntu machine or find the printer.

I installed and probably not correctly, attempted to configure samba. No difference. The Ubuntu Machine can see the windows network correctly though.

Can someone explain how to do this. I'm confused :D

Cheers

1197285 2011-04-26 12:51:00 Should wait for ubuntu 11.04 its on out Thursday / Friday. Its an authentication prob

From here (yonitg.com)

from the run command or from a cmd window run secpol.msc

go to “Local Policies” -> “Security Options” -> “Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level”

change to “LM and NTLM – use NTLMV2 session security if negotiated”

Press the OK button

1197286 2011-04-26 13:05:00 Cheers speedy. Just tried it, It searched for a while before returning my local machine as the only PC.

Might try tweaking settings ubuntu side in the mean time

Re 11.04, Damn! I just finished downloading all the .iso's for 10.10 on the capless internet in china, i'll have to use my own :(

I might be able to get it done before I leave though!! :D

1197287 2011-04-26 13:26:00 So did you install Samba? (www.unixmen.com)

Try this (ubuntuforums.org). Bottom post

1197288 2011-04-26 13:38:00 I previously installed it via sudo apt-get install samba

Bottom thread looks interesting though. I'll reinstall samba anyway. got mildly distracted, too much tweaking :p

Not much chance of it being stable atm :D

1197289 2011-04-26 14:40:00 That appears to have done nothing. Its probably me doing it wrong somewhere.

Never Mind. If I don't work it out I won't worry. They are perfectly happy plugging the laptop in when they DO print, which is hardly ever anyway.

Cheers for the help speedy

Curse the lack of cross compatibility :D
