1162793 2010-12-18 03:48:00 I like to shop at New World as they are NZ owned.

But Coundtown is nearer to me nowadays, so I tend to shop there.

I am not one of these to drive an extra 5K to buy a can of baked beans on special. The petrol and my time are worth more than that.

As regards GST on food
Yo all those people who say take it off food (which may be a good thing) I would like to say what would you like the government to put GST up on evreything else by ?
(They have to get a certain amount of money)

And those who grow their own veggies don't pay any GST at all !

1162794 2010-12-18 04:08:00 But what about the GST you pay on seeds, fertiliser, insecticides etc.

Then there is the time weeding, cultivating etc.

1162795 2010-12-18 04:15:00 Yeh, I remember that when Te Radar was summing up on his TV series on self sufficiency, he said that the jury was out on whether it's actually really cost effective to grow your own veggies if you factor in your time and what you have t spend on fert and stuff to get rid of the nasties. I was glad to hear that because i've been telling the wife that for years! tuiruru (12277)

Surely the tax on one seed isn't equivalent to the tax on say 30 tomato's?

That pre supposes that your one seed grows into a viable plant and actually produces 30 tomatoes which unfortunately we can not gaurantee.

I now feel tempted to go outside and take a picture of an attempt to grow silverbeet. At the moment they look more holey than righteous in spite of putting down slug bait etc.

The fact remains that the tax is less on seeds, which was my point!

Cripes Snork! Silverbeet is one thing (apart from weeds of course) that I can grow with no trouble at all! However, you do back up the argument about factoring in things like the cost of slug bait.

OK. Just to prove the point for Cic!

That is the downside of living near sub tropics, we get none of that.
