Programs that are difficult to use are condemnedOnly proves correct the article I was reading -- Some people are getting dumber by the day when it comes to working out items. People forget how to think, discover new things.

Others are the exact opposite -- pull it apart to see what makes it tick.

There is a problem with making technology – particularly computers – easy to use. The simpler and more foolproof they become, the less technically-proficient users tend to be. There’s that line from Rick Cook’s 1989 book The Wizardy Compiled; “Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.” Quoted From here (gigaom.com) -- good read if you want a chuckle.

A real classic example is this very forum (no people in particular) -- While there are a LOT of knowledgeable people here, a LOT of the answers to questions asked could be easily found by doing a simple google search :D

Back on track -- Another option to see where mails come from - Have a read (benosullivan.co.uk) --- Just depends on how good someone is in hiding / spoofing a email address/ Location.

1163384 2010-12-20 01:26:00 There's a difference though between a well designed and easy to use program, and a stupid piece of **** that hides all the options so you can't actually do anything without driving yourself insane (eg: Vista\Win7)

Outlook is probably great, if you like that sort of thing.

I don't like it only for the reason that it has a calendar etc that I don't want or need that gets in the way of sending and receiving emails which is all I want to do.

Outlook Express has email and nothing but email. So for me it's perfect.

My hero!! :D

And yes, it's piss easy to spoof the sender address of emails

This is exactly my problem. Everyone in the office comes over to ask the retired programmer Harley (our reviews ed) how to do things in Outlook. It shouldn't require that amount of technical knowledge to work an email client! You should be able to use an email client no matter how non-technical you are.

You'd think it would be just as easy to register a web address that sounded legit. I should be a scammer, I could do it better.

Obviously one trick Ponies, that cant think/figure things out.

I have older customers who never used anything but outlook Express, take the new Outlook, and within a few minutes can use all the basic functions with ease.

One thing I hate about Gmail, if theres a problem you cant ring them to sort it out.

Along with myself, earlier this year, I have had 4 customers all of a sudden, their Gmail account simply disappears, along with all mails, Addresses etc -- according to Gmail/Google, it never existed.

That happens when you have an insecure password, or when you get infected with a virus that sends your password off. Malicious user logs in, deletes your account, and because Google is *so* good with your privacy, it's as though the account never existed!

1163390 2010-12-20 03:18:00 Cant speak for the other customers, but my own account -Na, the password would not be able to be guessed easily. It was 24 characters long, and a mixture of upper/lower case, and number/Symbols.

IF it was some sort of hack, it was bloody quick, I made the account, and within an hour it was gone - even the alternative email address, claims not to be on record ---Bullshit.

As for googles security -- I wouldn't trust it one little bit.
