| 1162784 | 2010-12-17 21:09:00 | And why not remove GST from food? I shop at the farmers market since that doesn't have GST added and I get better quality goods, that's when I have nothing in the garden ready to eat | gary67 (56) | ||
| 1162785 | 2010-12-17 21:43:00 | I always think, that being taxed to have a heart operation is blinking silly. Richard goes to the docs and he pays 15% tax for the privilege. Poor old fellah. |

| 1162787 | 2010-12-17 21:59:00 | When you looking at food prices going up etc i think you should always discount fruit and vegies, as they are seasonal and go up and down like yo yo's due to supply, weather etc etc. But other groceries, that come in packets jars or cans, I think that over the last few years they have not gone up that much. Due I think to many of them coming in from China or Asia or having Chinese ingredients. Cheese has gone up a huge amount (as we all know) And yes that petrol voucher thing must be the biggest waste of time ever. All the extra work for them and us. It must be built into their prices. |

| 1162788 | 2010-12-17 22:38:00 | The point that consumers miss is that all retailer loyalty programmes are for the benefit of the retailer. There is a strong arguement for making them illegal. In Australia, the entry of the Supermarket Duopoly into the petrol market with partnerships with oil companies and loyalty discount coupons has strengthened the Coles/Woolworths duopoly and been an uncompetitive influnence in the market. The consumer has certainly not been the winner. |

The medical profession needs a good look at. Most of us have heard of them getting away with murder. Oooops I hear them cry, shouldn't have done that, bury him quick. |

The consumer has certainly not been the winner. It took a Looooong time for New Zealand to catch on to to these Petrol promotion/supermarket discount loyalty schemes. These kind of schemes were going on in the UK and Europe several years before NZ started fly buys and more recently the discount fuel voucher. To ignore them comes at a cost to the retailer as well due to that loyalty factor these promotions create. Where the competition is fierce and you ignore a loyalty discount you can expect a hard road to follow. You and I as the customer go to supermarkets etc for convieniance at the expense of the smaller retailer. who may or may not be cheaper. How many small towns do you know that a major outlet has moved into and killed the competition? I am in two minds about fuel discount vouchers given the discount that fuel cards offer anyways of which most of us do not have access to a fuel card! Yet another loyalty scheme! Although when I get given a 25 cents voucher for spending $150 at pak n save and can use it in any BP, I wont sniff at it especially on a Car with a large empty tank.:2cents: |

| 1162791 | 2010-12-18 03:02:00 | Unless the price is locked down in a National Mailer they can charge what they like. Yes they can and I learnt years ago that they most certainly do. A Pak Save store here in ChCh had run out of a couple of items that were on special and as I was going past I tried another Pak n Save store. The same items were not on special in the second store. I have noticed this several times since. The Pak n Save stores close to Countdown stores always offer better specials than the ones without any competition nearby. A Countdown store is closer to me than Pak n Save so they are usually who I shop with unless I have other errands to do near the PnS stores. Recently I discovered that almost everything I have bought using my OneCard has been stored on their system. Not that I am surprised, of course. It is actually quite handy as I no longer get junk mail so miss out on the specials brochure. Now I just log on to Countdown online and it tells me there which items I usually buy are on special. Much quicker than browsing through their brochures. |
