My father used to feed our family of five and a dog on just $600 a week, and that's before the monthly mortgage payment. Was that after you lived in a paper bag in the middle of the road by any chance? |

| 1162654 | 2010-12-17 06:18:00 | Same here when I was a child in the 40's... it got so bad once, the dog disappeared and never came home......:p Ken Yes, when I was a child in the 40's, we had the crusts of week old bread for breakfast, then we walked 20 miles in bare feet on a gravel road to school. At lunchtime we were allowed to smell a rag that had been used to clean the dipstick of the headmaster's car. Finally, for dinner, we had gruel made from our father's old socks that had been boiled for a week on the coal range. And if we complained we got a hiding. And Hotchin can't get by on $1,000 a week!!! |

My income just covers my mortgage & essentials, then I use the rent money from my flatmate for maintenance & entertainment. If I was living somewhere more expensive then $1000 per week probably wouldn't be enough. |
