2011-04-26 22:57:00 | Hi theres a few apps that i wish to run on android 2.2 which LG hasnt released or isnt planning to yet. So there are custom roms out there. Im looking at this guide (androidforums.com) and im a little confused at the instructions to install rom with fast boot: 1. Before you start, make sure you backup all your data by installing the z4root.1.3.0.apk file onto your phone, then open it and choose 'Permanent Root'. Your phone will root and reboot. Then go to the Market and install 'MyBackup Root', open it and do a backup of your apps and personal data (contacts, sms, call log etc.) Once this is done, go to Settings>SD Card and Phone Storage>Unmount SD Card, a notification in the notification bar should appear saying 'SD Card safe to remove'. Remove the battery cover and remove the SD card and store it in a safe place. Then continue to step 2 i dont know how to get the root apk or hwo to get it on my phone. Do i need to do this setup if i have nothing on phone?

2011-04-27 01:41:00 | z4root from xda devlopers: forum.xda-developers.com I'm not sure, I can't tell from that info. At this stage I'd say no but upgrading it may require root access. In which case yes I'd install z4 just in case. I would sign up with xda, much more likely to get help from them. Also, they know all about this stuff and probably have a forum dedicated to your particular handset. In which case you will get some very dedicated and specialised help if you bork it

2011-04-27 01:56:00 | To root your phone: 1) Place the z4root.apk on your SD card. 2) Install the application z4root using a file manager. 3) Run the program z4root from your app drawer. 4) Select permanent root. 5) Your phone will restart and will work as normal. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Installing Custom Firmware 1) Get into recovery mode. 2) Do a full nandroid backup. 3) Wipe the SD 4) Place the custom firmware zip file on your SD card. 5) Boot into recovery. 6) Select 'install zip from SD card'. 7) Let it install 8) Reboot you phone. 9) You should have a custom firmware on your phone. Note: This is how I did it on my android phone. (IDEOS u8150) - Should be similar to other phones.

2011-04-27 02:56:00 | Yeah you need to be signed up with XDA-Devs to download the files hosted there. sahilcc7 is right, the steps for his Vodafone 845 should be the same as your GT540. There's even a Gingerbread ROM based on CM7 you can use: android.modaco.com

2011-04-27 23:13:00 | took it to Omnitech, since it was getting beyond me. Only reason i need 2.2 is becuase i use an app called heywire, to text USA for free. Their developers said unless i get 2.2, i cant register my headset. Omnitech cant do it just yet, so im at the point where id like to do a phone swap, its worth a fair bit (in terms of phones.) Im not a huge code person so rooting, and such is just way beyond me, i need idiot instructions lol | aidanmaz (7180) | |
2011-04-28 02:43:00 | Rooting is really quite simple, you just need to install the z4root app onto your phone and run it. | sahilcc7 (15483) | |
2011-04-28 05:16:00 | yeah i guess so. The CM7 2.3 Android that was posted above, doesnt have any instructions, so im all lil lost at what to do? do i whack it on my memory card and use the recover to run the zip file? or do i unzip it..... | aidanmaz (7180) | |
2011-04-28 10:15:00 | Root using z4root I'm pretty sure that also installs ClockworkMod. If not, then download "Rom Manager" from the Marketplace and in there it'll let you install ClockworkMod. Put the CM7 files (Cyanogenmod Rom + Gapps) on the root of your SD Card (Root meaning don't put it in any folder) Now, you have to reboot into "Recovery" mode. This is different for each phone but usually it's holding the Vol-up + Home + Power buttons. Then Flash CM7, then flash Gapps, then factory reset. Reboot and you're good :) Still have me on MSN? Hit me up ...
