1163342 2010-12-19 19:06:00 Every year at this time of year TVNZ shuts down its main programs.
Business, Breakfast, Q & A, 60 minutes, Close Up etc etc.

This really annoys me ?
Do they think the the whole world goes on holiday and there is no news ?

OK everyone needs a holiday, but surely the presenters could stagger their holidays.

Now we are going to be subjected to a whole lot of re-runs, housing programs, pet shows, kitchen shows etc.

1163343 2010-12-19 19:17:00 It is called the "Silly Season"

For obvious reasons

Sounds like they belong to the same union as school teachers. 6 weeks break at Xmas..

1163346 2010-12-19 19:50:00 I wouldn't like to be a TV presenter, although I wouldn't mind there salaries. Although we only see most of them for an hour, half hour or 3 hours they work behind the scenes for at least 2 or 3 times longer than they are on screen for helping prepare the program. Most also work unsociable hours breakfast presenters getting up at about 4-00am or doing the late news maybe getting home at 11-00pm or later. They deserve a break like the rest of us and have earned it.

1163347 2010-12-19 19:54:00 People in TV news work 12 hour days, five or six days a week, with no overtime. I think I can begrudge them a long break. Siobhan Keogh (16063)
1163348 2010-12-19 19:55:00 It's actually to do with the rating system which is not done at this time of year. So the channels can serve up what they like when they like. Snorkbox (15764)

Hmm. Then it's what - 1/2 hr x 3 = 1 1/2 hrs.
Terrible.

Plenty of shift workers, early starters and such getting up real early too, they don't get a big holiday........

Anyway, they do have breaks at other times, you get the stand in presenters. Why not just do the same at Xmas?

But Digby: re-runs, housing programs, pet shows, kitchen shows et al are the normal fare anyway. Don't you mean we just have even more of them?
