1198938	2011-05-02 21:42:00	I having trouble getting good signal strength at the other end of the house and according to the manual I might get better if I change the channel. Is doing that just a matter of trial and error or is there a particular channel that I should try first? Is there a better modem that I could buy (not too expensive) that would be less frustrating? 1198939	2011-05-02 23:27:00	HI chris Randaal, I am barely the right person to give you a tech's reply but as no one else has replied---- Thompson v7 is a good fast router-I can get 13779 kb/s and avarege 12000 odd, I had had a Link which when Telecom swapped for the above- was still dropping out--don't know what they did but I have had one drop out in three weeks,as compared to 9 a day- they say 1 a day is acceptable----not me , I would spit fire if that kept happening It is fast as you will get for ADSL2+,using an ethernet (copper) cable as Telecom stated wireless speed was way way down on that,as normal Can you get a jack point installed at the other end- I am pleased with my results effie c	effie c (6856)

Changing channel I think will only help if there are other devices on the same channel causing interference. Run something like Netstumbler or inSSIDer and see what channels everyone else is using, and pick something they're not. Your modem is probably not the problem, it's your antenna that's probably the problem. Get a higher gain antenna for both the router and the computer and you might find it solves your problems... 1198942	2011-05-03 00:47:00	The Wifi on those routers are terrible anyways. I've had customers with the most retarded issues with them, like 2 laptops can connect, but a 3rd can't. Throw in a replacement router and all can connect. Other times it doesn't like giving DHCP out over Wifi to more than 5 devices, but will still give out DHCP to new devices via the LAN. Just silly things like that. Also the overall general range of them isn't too great. You could spend $40 -> $80 on a bigger antenna, or just get yourself a decent router. You're doubling your cost, but I promise it's worth it in the long run ;)	Chilling_Silence (9)
1198943	2011-05-03 01:42:00	I thought the TG585v7 might be good as it's the 'big brother' to the ST536v6 but maybe I was wrong. I have a Thomson ST536v6 - looks very very similar internally to my Dynalink RTA1320 (same chipset, very similar layout) but the build quality looks better, there are more capacitors, voltage regulators are bigger etc... But the firmware is CRAP. C.R.A.P. I'll say it again. CRAAAAAAAAAP. The web interface layout on it is just plain retarded, but it gets worse. Half the features are buggy, or just plain don't work, or require manual editing of a saved config file. The thing connects to the ADSL and is rock solid, so I think hardware-wise the thing is pretty good. But the firmware is really, really horrible.	Agent_24 (57)

1198947	2011-05-03 13:41:00	I'll second that :D I'll third that :D When, for some reason our TG585v7 gave out, a TG585v8 magically appeared. I have to say Telecom & Thomson have made an actual effort this time with the firmware and build quality. I mean, it has actual air vents!	bot (15449)
