1198635 2011-05-01 02:02:00 I took my external to some mates and their computer turned all my folders into shortcuts. I managed to fix it the last couple of times, but his computer still does it to our drives. We used to use the instructions using the following forum (en.kioskea.net), but now that doesn't even work. I've attached a picture of my drive now in my computer, can anyone help? We have scanned his computer HEAPS but nothing comes up. dpDesignz (15919)
1198636 2011-05-01 03:35:00 Scanned it with what?? Scan both PCs now.

For antivirus use either NOD32 or MS Security Essentials.

For antispyware:
Spybot
and either Malware Bytes or Superantispyware.

And run Hijackthis on both your PCs and post the log here.

As for the external.

1. Go to control Panel, Folder Options -- select VIEW--- select Show hidden files and folders and uncheck Hide protected operating system files click APPLY

2. go to your folders and it should show you all your folders hidden including the virus----- delete the virus and all the shortcut folders that have no data in them. create new folders and copy the data from YOUR hidden folders into them. once that is done delete the old hidden folders.

3. enter task manager--- find the program that is still running which will have the same name as the one you just deleted off the hard drive---- right click it and select open file location---- this should show you the virus location---- delete it!

4. Scan PC with the above anti-malware tools.

1198637 2011-05-01 06:41:00 Hi @pctek. I run MSE, my mate did but changed to PC tolls (blergh). Anyway I'm not wanting to put too many virus programs on my computer as I know what they do. That's the reason I had to get a new one.

My External: I've done as you've said plenty of times. The folder the virus is in locked it self down this time though. I can't get control of the folder (and I've done it plenty). The problem is my HDD has just over 1tb of the 1.5 on there and the transferring keeps crashing it. Every shortcut targets this "%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /c "start %cd%RECYCLER\0xA25D5DBD.exe &&%windir%\explorer.exe %cd%'folder name'". I checked task manager but I know all the programs running.

1198638 2011-05-01 06:57:00 These programs are the only odd ones out in my task manager

UMonit.exe found in C:\Windows\SysWOW64
csrss.exe no file location
nvvsvc.exe no file location
NvXDSync.exe no file location
SmartDoctor.exe no file location
winlogin.exe no file location

And this is my hijack file log

You say: Anyway I'm not wanting to put too many virus programs on my computer as I know what they do.

You should run ONE anti-virus but at least TWO anti-spywares.
They are not the same thing and an antivirus will not find/remove all spyware.

Thanks. I learnt something today. :). Can I ask why you selected those 4 lines? I'll give the anti-spyware a go and see what happens

Disable system restore then scan it again

I know the autorun/VU worm hides files. I came across one last week. A rellie up north got it twice. I have a feeling she was getting infected from a photo kiosk at the warehouse (she works there). And told her to tell the warehouse to check them (there's 2) for malware. Since this is the only place she used her memory card

She was using a memory card for printing the photos on it. She got infected first on an external hdd, then again on a memory stick. I noticed the photos on the hdd and memory stick were hidden (if theres a system.exe file on this), thats a sign. As soon as I removed system.exe I could see the photos again. It also infected a photo (gave it an exe extension).

1198643 2011-05-02 22:08:00 If this is on the net, get teamviewer (www.teamviewer.com), and I can check it out if you want. Install then run it. Then give me the ID and password it gives you in a PM Speedy Gonzales (78)
1198644 2011-05-02 22:15:00 To turn of system restore in W7 have a read of This article (www.howtogeek.com).

Seen your problem a few times, both the PC and the external hard drive are infected, as soon as you clean one the other reinfects again.

You have to clean the PC first, then disable the autorun for the external drive and scan that - if you dont disable the auto run theres a good chance the PC will instantly be reinfected.
