| 1198572 | 2011-04-30 21:24:00 | For the last few days Win 7 tried to install updates, only to fail when it tries to reconfigure Windows (at the splash screen stage). I've tried it manually, same problem. (KB2492386, KB982018, KB2522422, KB2515325). What should I do? I've Googled and checked the Win 7 website but the instructions there did not really help? sarel |

| 1198573 | 2011-04-30 23:05:00 | Just fixed the exact same problem on SWMBO's PC this morning, same 4 updates, been doing the same same thing for a couple of days now. Try this -- click start, type in cmd right click it, run as administrator, type in the following command EXACTLY " " and all ( there is a single gap between p " ) net stop"windows update" When the messages says complete, type in exit, or simply close the window. Next, go into the C drive, Windows Folder, Locate the Softwaredistribution Folder - right click it - delete. Reboot windows - once started, click start, type in Update - click Windows updates, check for updates. Install any that it finds. |

I didn't do what Wainui did, but do remember having to do just that some time in the past. |

| 1198580 | 2011-05-01 09:44:00 | I only install the important updates because I had the same problem. I hardly ever update Windows, and on the few occasions that I have allowed auto update it has been corrupted. If its working well I leave it as is. |
