| 1163647 | 2010-12-22 20:35:00 | Symtomatic with the banishment of physical punishment in schools has been the increase in bullying, especially as most bullies are cowards, and quite prepared to to inflict pain and humiliation on others while frightened themselves of being on the receiving end. In the early nineties, my son was a pupil at Howick Intermediate in Auckland, and not being a big lad was subject to merciless physical bullying by one or two youths, in spite of complaints to the school, nothing happened. I made a point of teaching the young lad a few dirty tricks and how to king hit his tormentor, I warned him he had to get it right or he would not certainly take a beating. A few days later, he came home to report that the school bully had picked on him again, and he had dealt with him as I trained him. I was called to the school to see the headmaster about the incident. My son had aquitted himself well and taken the bully out. The man was pompously angry about the incident, I told the headmaster that the victim of the incident was a habitual bully, which the headmaster admitted he knew, and that I had made a point of training the boy to deal with the bully, which would not have been necessary if he and his staff maintained proper control and discipline in the school grounds. The headmasters response was that I should be ashamed of myself for teaching my son to be able to look after himself. The upside, he was never bullied again in his remaining 18 months at that school. |

Unfortunately for you the facts don't support your theories, as I say move to a better part of town as your local school sure sounds out of kilter with what really happens in most schools. Better still join your school board and see if you can do something positive, although you whingers never do that. There will always be "the world was better when I grew up" types but the reality is the world is a better place now than it has ever been and New Zealand is a relatively safe country and the majority of people when surveyed in the MOJ survey confirmed that they agree. Looks like you are the one who is out of touch.NO, I don't think I have a negative view. One assumes that you went to some toffee-nosed private school? I say this because your view of the world seems to be rather rose-coloured... something usually associated with wealth. Anyway, in my view, people who throw figures at anything generally have no idea of what really happens Enjoy your rose-coloured Christmas - it may surprise you that this year, not everyone will be able to give or get presents... but your figures already tell you this right? |

People who can't argue against the facts make up the real world from their own biased perspective. We had the cane at our school (not toffee nosed and not private) and bullying was common. Cane achieved nothing in preventing bullying as anyone who was around then will know. Funny how we have a story on here about how a school pupil dealt to a so called bully by being taught how to be more violent. If you'd tried that at my school the bullies would hardly have backed off, this is fantasy world stuff and frankly you'd have had your head kicked in if you tried it. One on to a gang doesn't work apart from in Clint Eastwood movies. However let's see if your theory works in the real world, march up to your local gang headquarters with a lump of wood, and tell them to back off the crime. Hopefully it will work and the world will be a better place, but in the real world I think the result will be different. |
