1164844 2010-12-26 07:12:00 Theres a thought I will see if I can swap the filters with someone else and see if the problem is cured before getting the Chorus guys out. coldfront (15814)
1164845 2010-12-27 02:07:00 I've never given much thought to speed, as it has always seemed OK, so I ran the same Speedtest check.

Download was 5.43Mb/s but upload was only .73Mb/s. A differential of 7.75 x seems extreme, so what could be choking my uploads?

Xtra full speed up/down account 10GB/month cap which I never even dent.

Cheers

try the speedtest on the telecom site, see what you get there

If you have ADSL2 then your upload speed is OK, it's your download that is somewhat low, but maybe you are a bit far from your nearest cabinet.

Your modem will tell you what the download line attenuation is, from that by dividing by 13 will give an estimate of distance.

Problem located to a wiring fault between the exchange and the telephone pole. So thats that done ten times better and well done to Chorus who were out within 6 hours of the phonecall to slingshot this morning.

Whenever i run speedtest, download is always around 4-5Mbs and upload is roughly .75Mbs

we live in an adsl2+ area and a cabinet is at the bottom of our street, about 50m away.
we're on 40Gb a month aswell
is there something that can be done(other than change the router/modem)?

im happy anyway but hey anything to improve speed can only be good

That is a normal upstream rate for an ADSL connection (and comparable to mine)

If you want anything faster, you need Annex M (Up to 3Mbit Upstream) but I think you'd have to move to Australia first.
