1164626 2010-12-25 02:20:00 I have a bunch of Sandisk Cruzer Micros that have a clear, removable, plasti-rubber cover. The cover can easily be removed. There is a label area but I just use a small bit of post-it note stuck to the label area for easy reuse. They are quite a quick drive too. AvonBill (11358)
1164627 2010-12-25 11:04:00 Maybe try a removable media catalog organizer, e.g. Catalog Master (www.download32.com), or try cathy (www.snapfiles.com)... kahawai chaser (3545)
1164628 2010-12-25 22:37:00 Great question.
I bought three all the same.
I wrote on the with a felt pen, and it rubbed off in 2 days.

Now I write on the metal part that you stick into the pc.

The name tag idea is a good one.

1164629 2010-12-25 23:14:00 One technique I've used for cataloging multiple drives is to have a small batch file on the root of each drive.
The batch file will append the results of "Dir /s" to a file I keep on C:
In the process it will also include info to ID the drive it came off - this bit has to be set individually for each drive (eg "echo Source:Green Toshiba 2GB stick")

This way all I have to do is open the one file on C: that has the details of all the other drives.
I also get the batch to include the date/time that the data was appended.

Only weakness is I havent automated the process of triggering the batch file, so I have to remember to go into the root of each drive and run the batch before removing the drive... but at least (in theory) it saves me plugging them all in when I need to find something.

I have an 8GB one of these too which I use for work (the client I'm contracting to at the moment supplies a very generous (not!) 100MB of personal network drive, so I work off the flash drive and back up to a network drive that the team uses), along with a few 4GB ones that the kids use.

Just bought three 4GB Sandisk Cruzer drives from JB HiFi onto which I have loaded an image of Win7 Ultimate, Win7 Pro and Win7 Home Premium respectively which I will use in place of the more easily damaged DVD media. These have a white plastic slider onto one side of which I have written (with permanent marker) "7" and the other side and abbreviation for the version.

Much more difficult to label with a multi-purpose drive though...

1164634 2010-12-26 05:26:00 Certainly no easy answer.

Perhaps a concertina paper pad with a minature pen?

1164635 2010-12-26 06:54:00 Or a built in LCD displaying file names? johcar (6283)
