1164507 2010-12-23 22:07:00 They can't both be complaining their revenue will drop by 10% - it's an offset deal (as I understand it).

If the Vodafone termination invoice to Telecom is $250,000 (for instance) and the Telecom termination invoice to Vodafone is $220,000, then they offset each other's invoices and Telecom would pay Vodafone $30,000.

The next month the situation might be reversed.

Either way it's a rort.

1164508 2010-12-23 22:39:00 You are dead right Johcar, that's why the two big ones like it, it cancels itself out.

But a small player like 2degrees (or any new ones) have to pay a big invoice to them, but would get only a small cheque back in return.

They fought number portability for years, and Telecom fought against other broadband providers for years (with dirty tricks) ,till Steven Joyce got tough with them, and they nearly lost the lot!

1164509 2010-12-23 22:41:00 i dont think i've ever made a call on my cellphones, telecom or vodafone but still.

20 cents for a text is a rort in itself

1164510 2010-12-24 04:17:00 I did do something about it, I wrote to several ministers, and I wrote to the Commerce Commission and I joined 2 Degrees as soon as they came out.

I also switched to 2 degrees however because they use the Vodafone network the coverage is none existant where I live and patchy at best where I need it for work. Telecom unfortuantely have better coverage well since they put up the cellphone tower on a ridge near the village it has been.

So I got two cellphones! Cheap calls and no option calls! Actually most telecom are incoming anyways

Vodafone are a crock in my books because up until I ditched them for 2degrees I had a prepay package of 49c per minute! They tried to get me to switch to a new plan at 89c per minute (I wonder why?).

Look on the bright side I plugged an old phone that used my virgin UK simcard in and the roaming costs are 95pence per minute! Thats about $2 per minute:dogeye: got to say I miss the 1p per minute calls they offered.

I still though can not see the excuse of why cellphone calls are so expensive here and locked to paying for the first minute even if the call lasts a couple of seconds i.e goes to mailbox.

1164513 2010-12-24 18:13:00 Everyone who can should move over to 2degrees.
As a newcomer they need our support or the two duopoly encumbents will keep screwing us.
