1199280 2011-05-04 08:45:00 Hi all

I am having trouble with my internet connection with Orcon.
Since the change to ADSL-2 late last year I have had upload
speed problems with speedtest.net.

My modem is a Netcomm NB6Plus4Wn. Connect to it is via cable lan.

Sync up is as follows

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 18143 Kbps 1009 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate 20820 Kbps 1001 Kbps
Noise Margin 11.5 dB 12.8 dB
Line Attenuation 13.0 dB 5.5 dB
Output Power 18.6 dBm 12.4 dBm

Wan settings are

VPI / VCI 0 / 100
Service Category UBR
Connection Type PPPoA VC MUX, Always On, QoS On
NAT Enabled
WAN IP Address Automatically Assigned
Default Gateway Automatically Assigned
DNS Server Automatically Assigned

Oncon say that the fault is internal to my house but I have
changed just about everything I can with no change. I have also
done virus and malware scans with upto date scanners (MSE,
Malwarebytes and ccleaner)

International browsing speed has been very slow for the last
three weeks but local has been OK. I am beginning to think that
I possibily have setup problems at my end.

Any help would be appreciated.

1199281 2011-05-04 08:57:00 looking at the speedtest i wouldnt say that you are having major issues. what do you normally use your net for? just normal browsing or do you download/upload a lot? ronyville (10611)
1199282 2011-05-04 08:59:00 You think you have problems?

That is not broadband, it is a fast dialup.

1199284 2011-05-04 09:08:00 lol that sounds like the speed I was getting when I was on Xnet. At least the op's dl speed is faster than mine atm. My ul speed is just a bit higher (but not by much) Speedy Gonzales (78)

When you live 13 KM from civilisation and have 30-something-year old lines it's surprising how I can actually get anything, let alone broadband...

1199286 2011-05-04 10:56:00 @ vfr_nz - I wish I had your figures! I am in an adsl2+ area with newish lines (like about 5 years old), same modem as yours, and I would kill to get near those rates! John H (8)
1199287 2011-05-05 03:15:00 I have the same problem with Orcon in the Totaravale area on the North Shore. It was the same with Telecom and Vodafone before.

Ask Orcon to check if "interleaving" is switched on. Since this has been on speed is up a bit but so is latency. The quality is much better and no lost data.
You can check this with speed test NZ. Choose another server such as Napier or Tauranga. If the graph is spiked interleaving is off, if the graph is smooth or very few small spikes the interleaving is on.

I asked 'clear.net' if they could do better.... the answer was No, not until the new Cabinet scheduled for September was installed. So, my ADSL2 is only ADSL! Orcon have not commented on this despite the fact that I have told them that if it happens without them admitting to it I would find another ISP. Who I wonder?

1199288 2011-05-05 03:59:00 Seems I was upgraded overnight :)

I'm with Ihug (Vodafone) and previously 3 to 4 Mbps was the norm - 5 was a gift.

This morning at 2.30am I was getting anywhere from 22 to 30 Mbps.

I later checked with Vodafone and was told that I was getting 19 Mbps at 11am :)

Ask me if I am I happy :D :D :D
