1164475 2010-12-24 01:06:00 Any one tried or going to try Air Asia ?

Just been looking up flights to the UK for next year going end March returning early April a return with taxes is $1150NZ return, obviously food would be extra. The cheapest flight on webjet would be $2800NZ

1164476 2010-12-24 03:27:00 Only ever flew with Air Asia once and probably lucky that I was tired and slept through it .

Sure the type was a airbus type but instead of the usual 2,3,2 seating arangement, this one was a very tightly packed 3,3,3 seating arrangement .

Got relocated onto a Jetstar flight yesterday after a passenger had a heart attack and on that airbus, they had introduced a extra row of seating for 6 extra spaces, and removed the recline feature, you noticed the extra lack of foot space as soon as you sat down .

All depends on how much comfort you would like for how ever many hours you will be stuck in a tin chicken and whether you want the passenger sitting beside you groping you for that amount of time .

1164477 2010-12-24 03:41:00 I booked a fare from KL (Malaysia) to Bangkok then onto SG in May.

I got Jetstar's $100 incl tax from AKL to SG to KL, how could I not. Their introductory sales, prob to combat AA's debut fares from Chc to M'sia (200RM which is $100 each way).

AA is maybe a bit more $$ than Jetstar b/c they don't include all/most of the taxes. But food is much more reasonable at like $6 a meal while JS is like $35 for each leg. But their shot legs don't have food even if you bought.

Ie., AKL to AU to JP.
Food only from AU to JP.
AKL to AU you need to buy  and yes $70NZ (return), each with 2 set of meals, now only 1 meal and 1 snack, breakie is like a danish or a club sandwich. One hot and one cold drink at meal time, no snacks etc .. and other drinks at other times they are bought by the glass/packet. JS used to give you unlimited non alchohol drinks but they changed it.

1164478 2010-12-24 03:43:00 Overall unless you get the $200 fares, JS is more $$ than AA.

A typical fare on JS to Asia is like $1,000 return, not that great if you are looking out for AirNZs grab a seat for eg.

But a typical fare for AA to Asia is like $600 return arn't it. I know it's $1,200 return to EU (London or Paris).

1164479 2010-12-24 03:59:00 Both have there niche market and what sort of loss or service they wish to provide.

AirAsia recently gave away hundreds of free tickets on the Perth to Bali return route, you only had to pay the tax's I beleive.

Maybe a year ago now, they were offering $99 from Perth to London.

Jetstar can also do some good deals though rarely that low but you cannot sneeze at $15 airfares Chch to Auckland and sometimes there are 99 fares across the tasman.

Sometimes you just have to go direct to the airlines own website and juggle the options.

1164480 2010-12-24 04:33:00 I find travelling cattle class bad enough without travelling bilge class. Cicero (40)
1164481 2010-12-24 08:40:00 In general cheap flights anywhere are partly cheaper because they land in the middle of nowhere to keep the costs down, so be aware of costs or time getting to where you really wanted to land in the first place Ofthesea (14129)
1164482 2010-12-24 09:36:00 Cheap flight + long distance = bad news. Uncomfortable sometimes because they try to save space and they cut back on every thing that is not essential to life

They are not bad for short haul but going anywhere more than 4 hrs then I would consider stowing away in a Hercules. Its probably more comfortable.

At least the pilots get comfy seats.
