1164497 2010-12-23 19:17:00 This is to Paul Brislen and Paul Reynolds

(if they are watching this)

At last the Commerce Commission has determined that mobile phone carriers must reduce their termination rates from 14 cents down to 4 cents.

This is the charge that mobile telcos charge each other to take calls.
As Telecom and Vodafone have about the same number of customers they just swap bills at the end of each month.

It makes it hard for companies such as 2degrees who have to pass that cost on.

Vodafone and Telecom said years ago they would prefer to see voluntary reduction of this termination fee.

Well why didn't they start voluntarily reducing it ?"

Now its too late for them.
They have been overcharging us for years.

Yet your complaining about these rates yet you and everyone else using the networks allow this to carry on by simply using the networks. Catch 22 they got something you want!

1164499 2010-12-23 19:52:00 Interesting discussion I had with a cellphone tech over a coverage issue! The cellphone companies make bold claims over thier coverage areas, when I pointed out some blackspots I encounter the line came back of no one or not many people live in those areas.

Couldnt quite see my point if not many people lived in those areas that cellphone cover become more important becaue if there was people in those areas that you wouldnt need a cellphone.

Cellphones are a convieniance! Plain and simple and you get to pay for that in this country.

1164500 2010-12-23 20:23:00 Cellphones are a rort, and the companies involved will just ramp up the price elsewhere to make up the shortfall, They are after all about squeezing every cent out of the consumers while providing the least amount of worth.

Calls aren't going to get any cheaper.

Sorry about the typo!
(I wish you could edit Titles - Jan please ?)

I did do something about it, I wrote to several ministers, and I wrote to the Commerce Commission and I joined 2 Degrees as soon as they came out.

But you know as well as I do that there is little we can do about some things
The price of cheese
The price of petrol
MP's salaries

Other than that all the average guy can do it complain in forums such as these.

1164503 2010-12-23 21:46:00 Yes i could not work out how a txt used to cost 20c, to send this tiniest packet of data. They should be free. Cell phones should be cheaper to use than land lines as there is no cables to maintain. Gobe1 (6290)
