There has been quite a bit more published but I hesitate to post most of it as it made me feel quite sick to hear these people are out on bail and have name suppression.

1163598 2010-12-20 18:16:00 Meh... Any new law in this country really doesn't have a chance of succeeding while we have judges who allow recidivist offending. Case in point: Drunk drivers. Hell, if they can be allowed back on the road 17+ times; what chance do the kids have? Myth (110)
1163599 2010-12-20 18:54:00 Clearly not working, so let's stop treating child abusers like criminals (: pablo d (15490)
1163600 2010-12-20 19:01:00 Good old CYFs. Took her away when she was little and took her back two years ago. Why?
Oh but they were monitoring her....what did that involve - watching and taking notes?

And why didn't the school notice?
And the sister knew too.

1163601 2010-12-20 19:06:00 There were 5 adults who knew. The school did not notice because the girl was not at school. The school and the local health people were told the girl was at a tangi! Snorkbox (15764)
1163602 2010-12-20 19:10:00 Edit: misread something in the story... Myth (110)

1163604 2010-12-20 20:59:00 Myth, I completely agree about the drunk drivers. My cousin was killed by one who had offended three or four times (can't remember the details now, was years ago) and still had his license. His sister went on 20/20 and told the story, there were a couple of mentions of it by politicians for a couple of days, then it got dropped again.

Fortunately that guy got three years - still not long enough in my opinion.
