1199910 2011-05-06 08:37:00 if it's in the bin is it out of action? or does it still have some influence? jayal (1291)
1199911 2011-05-06 08:40:00 What do you mean? bot (15449)
1199912 2011-05-06 09:14:00 Files in the 'bin are not deleted permanently, but rather just moved to a different portion of the Hard Drive, which is why you can still recover them. When you empty the 'bin, it permanently deletes the file. IDK what happens after. bot (15449)
1199913 2011-05-06 09:22:00 I thought that, but needed confirmation - have had some issues and sent some files to the bin so was curious - thanks for the reply jayal (1291)
1199914 2011-05-06 09:56:00 Even if you delete them from the recycle bin, theyre not permanently deleted. You can still recover the files with data recovery programs. Unless you use a program that deletes them permanently Speedy Gonzales (78)
1199915 2011-05-06 10:03:00 The file name and/or path name get altered once in the bin, so in theory other apps, the registry, malware etc should not any longer have direct access to the file(s).

However, having said that, I have seen malware attempt to hide within the bin, so it must be possible to still access it in some respect.

Norton products used to screw with the bins contents. Don't know if that is still the case, but it was not unusual for an obscurely titled Nortons file to be semi-permanently occupying the bin.

In XP it's the C:\RECYCLER folder -- you may need to turn "Show system files" on. In 7 it's the C:\$Recycle.Bin folder.
